The article describes the School of Communication\u2019s\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.visualdesignlab.net\/\">VisualDESIGNLab<\/a>\u00a0that Murphey began as a place for students to relate their theoretical knowledge of design to the practical demands of working with actual clients from the community.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Natalie Cawood<\/strong>, lecturer for the department of Sociology and Social Work, had her peer-reviewed article, \u201cBarriers to the use of evidence-supported programs to address school violence,&#8221; published in the journal\u00a0<em>Children and Schools<\/em>.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Kathleen Day<\/strong>, an adviser in Extended Campuses and pastor of Campus Christian Ministry, and\u00a0<strong>Rebecca Campbell<\/strong>, director of Academic Transition Programs and associate professor of Education Psychology, are in Honduras leading a\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/international.nau.edu\/education_abroad\/honduras\/day.html\">study abroad<\/a>\u00a0service learning project. The team of seven is building a house in Danli and another in La Jagua through\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.sierraserviceproject.org\/index.html\">Sierra Service Project<\/a>.\n<p>The all-women group was inspired by last year\u2019s NAU Reads book,\u00a0<em>Enrique&#8217;s Journey<\/em>, and are visiting sites described in the book.<\/p>\n<p>Ashley Lynn and Courtney Patterson, two peer instructors for NAU freshman transition classes are updating a\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/ashleyandcourtney.blogspot.com\/\">blog<\/a>\u00a0about the 10-day trip.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p><a class=\"search-results-excerpt-link\" href=\"https:\/\/in.nau.edu\/news\/in-the-spotlight-july-21-2010\/\">Kudos to these faculty, staff and students Do you have a spotlight item to share with the NAU community?
