They will be featured at\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.greenbuildexpo.org\/Home.aspx\">Greenbuild 2009<\/a>, the world\u2019s largest green building conference and expo convening in Phoenix Nov. 11 through 13.<\/p>\n<p>The conference, hosted by the United States Green Building Council, attracts up to 30,000 building professionals from around the world to engage in sustainable building educational sessions, seminars, networking events and green building tours.<\/p>\n<p>This year NAU is in the sustainability limelight.<\/p>\n<p>The university will be featured in conference exhibit booths, an off-site NAU green building marketplace, an NAU hospitality suite and a daylong bus tour to the Mountain Campus for a up-close view of its Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design-certified buildings.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur presence at Greenbuild is a great way to showcase NAU\u2019s leadership in sustainable building,\u201d says\u00a0<strong>Susan Thomas<\/strong>, a lecturer in construction management who advises students headed for LEED certification. \u201cThis conference is important to our students who are the builders of tomorrow and will have a huge impact on the environment.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>NAU President\u00a0<strong>John Haeger<\/strong>\u00a0will be on hand to reaffirm his\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/stage.headlessnauedu-b6hgdzckfdgxgzhe.westus-01.azurewebsites.net\/nau-cements-climate-commitment\/\">sustainability pledge<\/a>\u00a0during an NAU Greenbuild hospitality reception on Nov. 12 at the Hyatt Regency.<\/p>\n<table width=\"355\" border=\"0\" cellspacing=\"7\" cellpadding=\"0\" align=\"right\">\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td width=\"341\" height=\"218\">\n<table width=\"346\" border=\"1\" cellspacing=\"0\" cellpadding=\"0\" align=\"center\">\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td width=\"342\" height=\"216\">\n<table width=\"344\" border=\"0\" cellspacing=\"0\" cellpadding=\"5\" align=\"center\">\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td width=\"334\" height=\"196\"><strong>NAU\u2019s Greenbuild reception attracts<br \/>\nU.S. sustainability leaders<\/strong><br \/>\nSome of the leaders in the country\u2019s sustainability arena will be attending NAU\u2019s Greenbuild reception at the Hyatt Regency in Phoenix on Nov. 12.NAU President\u00a0<strong>John Haeger<\/strong>, a charter signatory and leader in the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.presidentsclimatecommitment.org\/\">American College &amp; University Presidents Climate Commitment<\/a>, will be joined by Anthony Cortese and James Buizer, members of\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.secondnature.org\/team\/\">Second Nature<\/a>, an organization working to accelerate movement toward a sustainable future. The organization supports senior college and university leaders in making healthy, just and sustainable living the foundation of all learning and practice in higher education.Cortese, president of Second Nature, co-founded the organization with U.S. Sen. John Kerry. He also is a co-organizer of the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.presidentsclimatecommitment.org\/\">American College &amp; University Presidents Climate Commitment<\/a>\u00a0and co-founder of the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.aashe.org\/index.php\">Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education<\/a>and the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www2.aashe.org\/heasc\/\">Higher Education Association Sustainability Consortium<\/a>.Buizer, is the science policy adviser to Arizona State University President Michael Crow, and serves as director of the ASU\u2019s University Center for Integrated Solutions to Climate Challenges. He also is a professor of practice in climate adaptation policy and institutional design.<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<p>NAU\u2019s alliances and commitment to green building will be represented in the exhibit hall in displays by Kitchell Construction, Timmons Design Engineers and Arup construction consultants\u2014businesses that partnered with NAU to construct its LEED-rated buildings, including the award-winning Applied Research and Development building.<\/p>\n<p>An\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www4.nau.edu\/marketing\/greenbuild\/\">NAU Greenbuild Marketplace<\/a>\u00a0on Nov. 11 at Sundt Construction\u2019s new Gold LEED-Certified sustainable headquarters in Tempe will be the place to learn more details about the university\u2019s hands-on green curriculum and the alliances that make it successful.<\/p>\n<p>The marketplace program will showcase the greening of northern Arizona based on collaborative and educational efforts and alliances.
