Northern Arizona University\u2019s outreach efforts, financial aid opportunities and student support services are recognized in a new college guidebook that is designed to help low-income, first-generation college-bound students make their college dreams a reality.<\/p>\n
The Center for Student Opportunity\u2019s\u00a02011 College Access & Opportunity Guide<\/em>\u00a0features 284 colleges and universities that have been highlighted for their programs aimed to serve economically disadvantaged and historically underserved students.<\/p>\n The one-page profile on NAU describes the university as providing \u201ca quality, affordable education,\u201d and also singles out the university\u2019s\u00a0Nizhoni Academy<\/a>,\u00a0Four Corners Upward Bound Math and Science Program<\/a>,\u00a0Upward Bound<\/a>\u00a0and the\u00a0LEADS Center<\/a>\u00a0as being key resources that can help students transition to college and be successful.<\/p>\n \u201cHaving our programs included in the guidebook is a reflection of NAU\u2019s commitment to understanding the needs of Arizona\u2019s underrepresented students and to providing the highest quality services to help prepare them for the rigors of a college education,\u201d said\u00a0Erin Grisham<\/strong>, executive director of Educational Support Services, who oversees the outreach programs featured in the guidebook. \u201cWe work with more than 9,000 students each year, providing valuable resources that help the university achieve its mission and goals on higher education access, degree attainment and affordability.\u201d<\/p>\n Information about the\u00a02011 College Access & Opportunity Guide<\/em>\u00a0is\u00a0online<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
