NAU also scored high in the areas of efficiency, administration and \u201cother\u201d initiatives.<\/p>\n<p>The survey considered 10 categories for measuring a school&#8217;s commitment to sustainability: efficiency, food, academics, purchasing, transportation, waste management, administration, financial investments and a catchall section titled &#8220;other initiatives.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Heather Farley<\/strong>, coordinator for NAU\u2019s Office of Sustainability, said the nod from\u00a0<em>Sierra<\/em>\u00a0magazine is welcome recognition for the sustainability initiatives that are a core part of the university\u2019s\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/stage.headlessnauedu-b6hgdzckfdgxgzhe.westus-01.azurewebsites.net\/strategic-plan-fine-tuned\/\">Strategic Plan<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/stage.headlessnauedu-b6hgdzckfdgxgzhe.westus-01.azurewebsites.net\/nau-defines-plan-for-carbon-neutrality\/\">Climate Action Plan<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe can take pride in knowing that NAU is a model for environmentally responsible and sustainable operations and education,\u201d Farley said. \u201cThis is a great way to let the greater public know that NAU is leading the way in sustainability.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Read the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.sierraclub.org\/sierra\/201009\/coolschools\/\">magazine\u2019s overview<\/a>\u00a0on how it came up with its list of America\u2019s greenest campuses, and\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.sierraclub.org\/sierra\/201009\/coolschools\/allrankings.aspx\">view the complete list<\/a>\u00a0of all 162 schools that were ranked.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p><a class=\"search-results-excerpt-link\" href=\"https:\/\/in.nau.edu\/news\/sierra-magazine-names-nau-as-one-of-the-nations-coolest-schools-for-sustainability\/\">Northern Arizona University earned a spot on\u00a0Sierra\u00a0magazine\u2019s annual Coolest Schools survey, which recognizes the top 100 \u201cgreenest\u201d colleges and universities across the United States.
