{"id":15193,"date":"2010-09-21T10:31:15","date_gmt":"2010-09-21T17:31:15","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/stage.headlessnauedu-b6hgdzckfdgxgzhe.westus-01.azurewebsites.net\/?p=15193"},"modified":"2013-03-27T14:55:02","modified_gmt":"2013-03-27T21:55:02","slug":"nominations-sought-for-distinguished-teaching-fellows-award-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/in.nau.edu\/news\/nominations-sought-for-distinguished-teaching-fellows-award-2\/","title":{"rendered":"Nominations sought for Distinguished Teaching Fellows Award"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>President\u00a0<strong>John Haeger\u00a0<\/strong>and Provost\u00a0<strong>Liz Grobsmith<\/strong>\u00a0are seeking nominations for the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/home.nau.edu\/facdev\/academy.asp\">President\u2019s Distinguished Teaching Fellows<\/a>\u00a0for 2011.<\/p>\n<p>The award identifies teaching scholars whose student-related activities represent the highest levels of excellence and who make a significant impact on undergraduate learning through departmental and campus engagement.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNorthern Arizona University\u2019s history is deeply rooted in education and a commitment to being a learning-centered institution,\u201d Haeger said. \u201cThe President\u2019s Distinguished Teaching Fellows are recognized as leaders who exemplify the university\u2019s reputation for excellence through enrichment of student learning and success.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Appointed for three years, fellows receive both a $5,000 stipend and $5,000 in professional development funding for teaching-related endeavors each year of their term.<\/p>\n<p>Fellows serve as leadership board members of the NAU\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/nau.edu\/Faculty-Development\/Teaching-Academy\/\">Teaching Academy<\/a>, which was created to recognize, support and reward effective teaching. The Teaching Academy is comprised of faculty members designated as their college teacher of the year.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere is great benefit to the campus in recognizing professors whose teaching and leadership impacts our commitment to student learning,\u201d Grobsmith said. \u201cWe hold them in the highest regard, and the fellows inspire us with their classroom and campus leadership.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The deadline for the President\u2019s Distinguished Teaching Fellow nominations is Nov. 30.
