{"id":14768,"date":"2009-12-01T12:17:10","date_gmt":"2009-12-01T19:17:10","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/stage.headlessnauedu-b6hgdzckfdgxgzhe.westus-01.azurewebsites.net\/?p=14768"},"modified":"2015-08-17T14:51:34","modified_gmt":"2015-08-17T21:51:34","slug":"landsward-institute-benefits-from-new-name","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/in.nau.edu\/news\/landsward-institute-benefits-from-new-name\/","title":{"rendered":"Landsward Institute benefits from new name"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Ecological Monitoring and Assessment Program has changed its name to the Landsward Institute to better reflect the program\u2019s mission to create a new model for sustainable, use-inspired land stewardship on the Colorado Plateau.<\/p>\n<p>The institute invites faculty and staff to celebrate the name change and help support student involvement in conservation at an\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.emaprogram.com\/LandswardBenefit.asp\">R4 benefit party<\/a>\u2014Reduced, Reused, Recycled, Renewed\u2014from 5\u20138 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 3, in the atrium of the Applied Research and Development Building.<\/p>\n<p>The event will feature a recycled fashion show, a silent auction featuring local, sustainable items and services and a raffle. Proceeds will support student internships with regional resource managers, scholarships for environmental field courses and research and the Native American River Guide Training Program.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;This year\u2019s benefit is a special way to support student involvement in environmental research and education while enjoying a great evening of music and entertainment,\u201d said\u00a0<strong>Karan English<\/strong>, director of the Landsward Institute. \u201cWe\u2019re working hard to make sure the event is successful so NAU students can experience working and learning in the vast outdoor classroom of the Colorado Plateau.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Ecological Monitoring and Assessment Program emerged over six years ago from a partnership between Babbitt Ranches and Northern Arizona University.
