{"id":13960,"date":"2010-04-15T14:23:56","date_gmt":"2010-04-15T21:23:56","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/stage.headlessnauedu-b6hgdzckfdgxgzhe.westus-01.azurewebsites.net\/?p=13960"},"modified":"2013-03-06T14:43:27","modified_gmt":"2013-03-06T21:43:27","slug":"hrm-program-ranks-among-worlds-best-for-industry-research","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/in.nau.edu\/news\/hrm-program-ranks-among-worlds-best-for-industry-research\/","title":{"rendered":"HRM program ranks among world\u2019s best for industry research"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Northern Arizona University ranks high among the top 100 hospitality and tourism programs in the world for research in the industry, according to the\u00a0<em>Journal of Hospitality and Tourism Research<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>NAU&#8217;s School of Hotel and Restaurant Management ranks 11th in the world for research output over a 15 year period\u20141992 to 2006\u2014making it the top-ranked undergraduate program on the list in the journal\u2019s November 2009 issue. The school also ranks 22nd out of the top 100 programs that provided the most scholarly contributions to 11 prominent hospitality and tourism refereed journals from 2002 to 2006.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Richard Howey<\/strong>, HRM executive director, said the program\u2019s high ranking further solidifies its reputation as a world player in the hospitality and tourism field.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOurs is not only a student-oriented teaching program, but also a well-rounded school that engages in research to enhance our discipline\u2019s body of knowledge,\u201d Howey said. \u201cThe breadth of research across many areas of\u00a0hospitality and tourism is what defines us.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>Laura Huenneke<\/strong>, vice president for Research, echoed Howey\u2019s sentiments and said the program\u2019s ranking speaks to the impact that research and scholarship can have on the discipline and on the real world.\u00a0\u201cOur HRM faculty members routinely publish their work in high-profile international journals\u2014the key test of quality,\u201d she said.\u00a0\u201cThis outstanding record of publication, sustained over the long term, is a truly impressive accomplishment.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Howey added that the accomplishment is further underscored considering NAU has the top-ranked undergraduate program on the list. \u201cStudents will benefit from the research we do as much of the work finds its way into the classroom,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>The complete article is available online:\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/jht.sagepub.com\/cgi\/content\/abstract\/33\/4\/451\">jht.sagepub.com\/cgi\/content\/abstract\/33\/4\/451<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p><a class=\"search-results-excerpt-link\" href=\"https:\/\/in.nau.edu\/news\/hrm-program-ranks-among-worlds-best-for-industry-research\/\">Northern Arizona University ranks high among the top 100 hospitality and tourism programs in the world for research in the industry, according to the\u00a0Journal of Hospitality and Tourism Research.
