A moving documentary that scrutinizes public education and how the system can inhibit the success of today\u2019s children is coming to Flagstaff next week.<\/p>\n
Written and directed by Academy Award-winner Davis Guggenheim,Waiting for Superman<\/em>\u00a0will show at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 14, at Harkins Theaters.<\/p>\n Waiting for Superman<\/em>\u00a0examines the public school system in the United States while following the stories of five children waiting to win a lottery into a charter school. It has been named best documentary by the National Board of Review and was a featured documentary at this year\u2019s Sundance Film Festival.<\/p>\n \u201cConsideration of the public education system couldn\u2019t happen at a better time,\u201d NAU President\u00a0John Haeger<\/strong>\u00a0said. \u201cThis film is powerful and will inspire conversations about the critical need for every citizen to have access to a quality education, and how our education system at every level directly affects our success as a nation.\u201d<\/p>\n Guggenheim won an Oscar for Best Documentary in 2007 for\u00a0An Inconvenient Truth<\/em>, a documentary about global warming that featured former Vice President Al Gore.<\/p>\n Waiting for Superman<\/em>\u00a0is in limited release, and Tuesday\u2019s showing was made possible through sponsorship by NAU, the Flagstaff Forty, the Flagstaff Chamber of Commerce and United Way of Northern Arizona.<\/p>\n Contact the Flagstaff Chamber of Commerce at (928) 774-4505 for ticket information.
