Joyce DeVoss<\/strong>, an associate professor of educational psychology, was recognized as a Trail Blazer by the Education Trust for her 10-plus years of work \u201cTransforming School Counseling\u201d in the Master of Education in School Counseling program. The Arizona School Counselors Association also chose the professor as Post Secondary Counselor of the Year, recognizing her innovative approaches to mentoring and advising school counseling graduate students and for coordinating the Master\u2019s of Education School Counseling Program in Tucson.<\/p>\n

Emilly Borthwick<\/strong>, a master\u2019s degree student in the applied communication program in the School of Communication, presented a competitively selected paper \u201cUsing an Online Newsletter to Shape Organizational Culture: Newcomer Socialization in University First Year Students\u201d to the Organizational Communication interest group at the Western States Communication Association annual conference in Mesa this month.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Lea Parker<\/strong>, a professor in the School of Communication, will have a photograph and essay published in\u00a0Thoreau’s Legacy<\/em>, a book by The Union of Concerned Scientists. The book will be published this spring by Penguin Classics.<\/p>\n

Mary I. Dereshiwsky<\/strong>, professor of educational leadership in the College of Education, recently gave the presentation “Continual Engagement: Why It’s Important to Effective Online Instruction,” at the Faculty Development Institute, sponsored by the Learning Resources Network in Georgia earlier this month.<\/p>\n

Michelle Miller<\/strong>, associate professor of psychology, wrote \u201cWhat the Science of Cognition Tells us About Instructional Technology,\u201d to be published in the March-April edition of\u00a0Change:\u00a0<\/em>The Magazine of Higher Learning<\/em>.<\/p>\n

Michael Thiel<\/strong>, senior journalism major, was recently chosen as the NASA Student Ambassador for the state of Arizona.\u00a0Thiel plans to use both writing and photography as a means of promoting astronomy and is currently working as an NAU\/NASA Space Grant intern, writing science articles for the\u00a0Arizona Daily Sun<\/em>.<\/p>\n
