The purpose of the program, titled \u201cUnsung Heroes: Black History beyond Martin, Malcolm and Rosa,\u201d is to celebrate the history, culture and progression of the African-American culture and its visionaries.<\/p>\n<p>The celebration will feature 14 events including a film series, a performance by\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.stepafrika.org\/home.htm\">Step Afrika!<\/a>\u00a0professional stepping company and a presentation by international journalist and social and political activist\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.jeffsnation.com\/about.php\">Jeff Johnson<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Black History Month was officially recognized for the first time by President Gerald Ford in 1976.
