Sullivan<\/strong>, professor of religious studies, wrote &#8220;Ethnographic Research on a Masterpiece of the Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity, Kerala&#8217;s Kutiyattam&#8221; for publication in the journal\u00a0<em>Method and Theory in the Study of Religion<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>John Tester<\/strong>, an associate professor of mechanical engineering and director of the \u201cDesign4Practice\u201d engineering undergraduate design curriculum, is receiving a 2008 Faculty Advisors Award from the Society of Automotive Engineers International and the Teetor Educational Awards Committee.\u00a0The society will present Tester the award during its 2009 World Congress and Exhibition in April.\u00a0As a recipient of the award, Tester can attend one of the society\u2019s aerospace or ground vehicle conferences as a guest.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Mary I. Her presentation, \u201cGender, Constructing the Natural World, and Natural Resource Management,\u201d supported the conference theme, \u201cThe Changing Role of Natural Resource Managers.\u201d Schutten also presented her research on ecofeminism to the Environmental Communication Unit at the university.<\/p>\n<p>The NAU Forensics team won both first and second place during a recent debate tournament\u00a0co-hosted by NAU and The University of Utah in Salt Lake City.\u00a0The NAU team received a first-round invitation as well as a second-round\u00a0invitation\u00a0to\u00a0compete against the top 64 debate teams in the United States at the tournament in March at the University of California, Berkeley.\u00a0Additionally, two NAU debate teams made the top-10 ranking of official national debate teams.<\/p>\n<p>NAU Forensics is sending\u00a0<strong>Kaitlin Bundock<\/strong>, a senior anthropology and political science major, and\u00a0<strong>Travis Risner<\/strong>, a senior political science major, as well as\u00a0<strong>Zach\u00a0Freels<\/strong>, a senior\u00a0political science major, and\u00a0<strong>Nicola Walters<\/strong>, a junior political\u00a0science major,\u00a0to attend the National Parliamentary Tournament of Excellence, the most prestigious national parliamentary debate. Due to the NAU Forensics team national performance over the past few years, NAU\u00a0will host next year\u2019s Tournament of Excellence.<\/p>\n<p>Freels is currently being interviewed as one of 12 top U.S. collegiate debaters to debate the top-three debaters from Ireland in a pre-nationals, showcase debate.<\/p>\n<p>This weekend the team is competing at the Western States Communication Association forensics tournament. It also will present &#8220;Women in Debate&#8221; during a panel discussion led by\u00a0<strong>Danny Iberri-Shea\u00a0<\/strong>and\u00a0<strong>Gina Iberri-Shea<\/strong>, the director and coordinator of the NAU Forensics Team.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p><a class=\"search-results-excerpt-link\" href=\"https:\/\/in.nau.edu\/news\/in-the-spotlight-feb-12-2009\/\">Kudos to these faculty, staff and students Do you have a spotlight item to share with the NAU community?
