Help celebrate NAU\u2019s Black History Month during closing ceremonies at 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 28, in the NAU Fieldhouse.<\/p>\n
Co-sponsored by the Black Student Union and the Office of Residence Life, the celebration features a barbecue and activities such as games, dancing and contests. Campus and the public are invited to this free event.<\/p>\n
An Evening of Poetry with Nikki Giovanni<\/strong> Giovanni, a renowned poet, writer, commentator, activist and educator, maintains a prominent place as a strong voice of the black community. Many of her books have received honors and awards. She is a distinguished professor at Virginia Tech University.<\/p>\n Most recently, Giovanni\u2019s children’s picture book\u00a0Rosa<\/em>, about the civil rights legend Rosa Parks, became a Caldecott Honors Book, and illustrator Bryan Collier won the Coretta Scott King award for best illustration.<\/p>\n Tickets are free but required.
