{"id":12316,"date":"2009-01-28T13:42:32","date_gmt":"2009-01-28T20:42:32","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/stage.headlessnauedu-b6hgdzckfdgxgzhe.westus-01.azurewebsites.net\/?p=12316"},"modified":"2015-08-17T14:36:03","modified_gmt":"2015-08-17T21:36:03","slug":"nau-theater-selected-to-perform-at-regional-festival","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/in.nau.edu\/news\/nau-theater-selected-to-perform-at-regional-festival\/","title":{"rendered":"NAU Theater selected to perform at regional festival"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A scene from NAU Theater&#8217;s production of\u00a0<em>The Miser<\/em>\u00a0will be a featured event during the Kennedy Center\/American College Theater&#8217;s regional festival hosted by California State University in Fullerton.<\/p>\n<p>NAU&#8217;s Theater Department was one of nine groups chosen from more than 60 theater groups nominated to perform during the festival&#8217;s Evening of Invitational Scenes on Feb. 10.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It is a great honor for us to be invited,&#8221; said\u00a0<strong>Kathleen McGeever<\/strong>, chair of the theater department and director of the production. &#8220;It speaks well of the students&#8217; commitment and dedication to the work that they&#8217;re doing here.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Participants from 50 colleges and universities in Arizona, California, Guam, Hawaii, Nevada and Utah will attend.<\/p>\n<p>McGeever will be taking two students to perform the comedic excerpt:\u00a0<strong>Tony Latham<\/strong>, a sophomore theater performance major, will play the lover Cl\u00e9ante, and\u00a0<strong>Levy Baltazar<\/strong>, a junior theater performance and design tech major, will perform as servant La Fl\u00e9che.<\/p>\n<p>The performance of Moliere&#8217;s classic scene will adhere to principles of\u00a0<em>commedia dell&#8217;arte<\/em>, or Italian comedy\u2014an art form that uses fixed social types, such as foolish old men or devious servants.
