Lovett<\/b>, president emerita, recently wrote an article for <i>Change<\/i>, <i>the Magazine of Higher Learning<\/i>, titled \u201cThe Global Contexts of Higher Education.\u201d Lovett was NAU\u2019s president from 1993-2001 and currently serves on the boards of the National Council on Teacher Quality and the Thunderbird Graduate School of Global Management. Read an excerpt of the article <a href=\"http:\/\/www.changemag.org\/Archives\/Back%20Issues\/2013\/January-February%202013\/global-contexts-abstract.html\">here<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li><b>Kristen Swanson<\/b>, professor in the School of Communication, recently published the book <i>Guide to Producing a Fashion Show, 3rd edition<\/i>, through Fairchild Publishers.<\/li>\n<li><b>Ricardo Guthrie, <\/b>an assistant professor in the Ethnic Studies Program, recently published a book chapter, \u201cOprah Winfrey and the Trauma Drama: What\u2019s So Good About Feeling Bad?\u201d in <i>Presenting Oprah Winfrey: Her Films, and African American Literature<\/i>. The chapter examines racial discursive themes in film projects promoted by media icon Oprah Winfrey, assessing the connection between cinematic trauma and sociohistorical conditions of the late-twentieth century.<\/li>\n<li><b>Kurt Lancaster<\/b>, associate professor in the School of Communication, has received a grant from NAU\u2019s Faculty Grant Programs to conduct research and to write a book titled <i>Shooting with 16mm RAW Cinema Cameras.<\/i><i>\u00a0<\/i><\/li>\n<li><b>James Sample<\/b>, professor in the School of Earth Sciences and Environmental Sustainability, is a coauthor of \u201cStress State in the Largest Displacement Area of the 2011 Tohoku-Oki Earthquake,\u201d published in the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sciencemag.org\/content\/339\/6120\/687.full\">Feb. 8 issue<\/a> of <i>Science<\/i>.<\/li>\n<li>Seventeen NAU Voice students placed in the\u00a0National Association of Teachers of Singing Arizona competition in their respective divisions\u00a0this month at the University of Arizona.
