The book is coauthored with Nancy Walkup, editor of\u00a0<em>SchoolArts<\/em>\u00a0magazine and focuses on the learning outcomes of quality art education.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Martha Portree<\/strong>, the Cline librarian who died in 2007 at the age of 40, is one of four NAU staff members to have an article published in the Winter 2008 issue of\u00a0<em>Reference and User Services Quarterly<\/em>.In addition to Portree,\u00a0<strong>Tina Adams<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0<strong>Sean Evans<\/strong>, also Cline librarians, as well as\u00a0<strong>John Doherty<\/strong>, an instructional designer in the E-Learning Center, co-wrote \u201cOvercoming Transactional Distance: Instruction Intent in an E-mail Reference Service.\u201d\n<p>The article is dedicated in Portree&#8217;s memory.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Richard &#8220;Tony&#8221; Parker<\/strong>, professor of speech communication in the School of Communication, presented an invited paper, \u201cImmortal Metaphor: A Marketplace of Ideas for the 21st Century,\u201d at the annual convention of the National Communication Association in San Diego in November.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>\n<table width=\"162\" border=\"0\" align=\"right\">\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td><a href=\"http:\/\/stage.headlessnauedu-b6hgdzckfdgxgzhe.westus-01.azurewebsites.net\/?attachment_id=11950\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-11950\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-11950\" alt=\"language cover\" src=\"http:\/\/stage.headlessnauedu-b6hgdzckfdgxgzhe.westus-01.azurewebsites.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2013\/02\/languagecover.jpg\" width=\"156\" height=\"224\" \/><\/a><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n<p>The College of Education has published a new book called<em>Indigenous Language Revitalization: Encouragement, Guidance and Lessons Learned<\/em>. This book is the sixth in a series of indigenous language monographs published by NAU. Its contents come from the 14th and 15th annual Stabilizing Indigenous Languages conferences held in 2007 at Mount Pleasant, Mich. and in 2008 at NAU. All of the indigenous language books are available on the Teaching Indigenous Language\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/jan.ucc.nau.edu\/~jar\/ILR\/\" target=\"_blank\">web site<\/a>. Papers are now being accepted for this year&#8217;s Indian education conference on June 12-13. The deadline for submissions is Feb. 30.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Dennis C. Tanner,<\/strong>\u00a0professor in the Department of Health Sciences and John Sciacca, dean of health sciences at Cyprus College in Los Angeles, published \u201cLogical alternatives to aphasia therapy when evidence-based research is lacking\u201d in the\u00a0<em>Journal of Medical Speech-Language Pathology<\/em>. Armstrong Woodman is one of 18 artists from across Arizona to receive the prestigious grant.
