{"id":11576,"date":"2008-11-12T10:34:54","date_gmt":"2008-11-12T17:34:54","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/stage.headlessnauedu-b6hgdzckfdgxgzhe.westus-01.azurewebsites.net\/?p=11576"},"modified":"2015-08-17T14:31:50","modified_gmt":"2015-08-17T21:31:50","slug":"nau-theater-entertains-with-popular-twelfth-night","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/in.nau.edu\/news\/nau-theater-entertains-with-popular-twelfth-night\/","title":{"rendered":"NAU Theater entertains with popular &#8216;Twelfth Night&#8217;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>NAU Theater will entertain audiences with\u00a0<em>Twelfth Night<\/em>, one of Shakespeare&#8217;s most popular comedies, opening Nov. 14 at NAU&#8217;s Studio Theater.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The play is an enormously intricate story of surprising love affairs, mistaken identities, improbable duels and Shakespeare&#8217;s incomparable poetic imagery,&#8221; said theater professor\u00a0<strong>Mac Groves<\/strong>, director of the play. &#8220;The set and the costumes are a lot of fun.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><em>Twelfth Night<\/em>\u00a0is the story of Viola, who is shipwrecked in romantic Illyria. She believes her twin brother, Sebastian, is dead. Masquerading as a youth named Cesario, she enters the service of Duke Orsino, who loves Lady Olivia and decides to use &#8220;Cesario&#8221; as an intermediary.<\/p>\n<p>Other elements of the play include cross-dressing, romance and one of Shakespeare&#8217;s best subplots in which other characters scheme to fool Olivia&#8217;s pompous head steward, Malvolio.<\/p>\n<p>The performance is set in the tropics in modern times and will feature NAU students\u00a0<strong>Amber Stonebraker<\/strong>\u00a0as Viola,\u00a0<strong>David Pickett<\/strong>\u00a0as Count Orsino,\u00a0<strong>Lauren Klein<\/strong>\u00a0as Lady Olivia,\u00a0<strong>Andrew Cupo<\/strong>\u00a0as Sir Andrew Aguecheek,\u00a0<strong>Shelby Brimhall<\/strong>\u00a0as Feste,\u00a0<strong>Alex Oliver<\/strong>\u00a0as Sir Toby Belch and\u00a0<strong>Emily Kuckuk<\/strong>\u00a0as Maria.<\/p>\n<p>The performance will be staged at 8 p.m. Nov. 14, 15, 19, 20, 21 and 22. Matinee performances are scheduled for 2 p.m. Nov. 16 and 23.<\/p>\n<p>The NAU Studio Theater has limited seating, so patrons are encouraged to call for\u00a0<em>Twelfth Night<\/em>\u00a0tickets early. Tickets are $12 for general admission, $11 for faculty, staff and senior citizens and $7 for students and children.
