NAU\u2019s team of Army cadets<\/a>\u00a0finished 15th out of 50 teams, and first among eight teams representing senior Army ROTC units nationwide.The competition included teams from West Point, the U.S. Air Force, Army, Naval and Military academies as well as international teams from England, Canada, Australia, Afghanistan, Taiwan and Chile.\n<p>Competing teams engaged in seven events that lasted more than four hours and included physical strength tests that demanded ingenuity and coordinated efforts.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe needed to all be on the same page,\u201d said\u00a0<strong>Renee Ingerson<\/strong>, NAU undergraduate student and Army ROTC captain. \u201cThat\u2019s part of the reason our team does so well in these types of events.\u201d<\/li>\n<li>Several faculty members and students represented the School of Communication at the Western Social Science Association meeting in Salt Lake City.Faculty members presenting papers included<strong>: Linda Alexander<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>Dayle Hardy-Short<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>Brant Short<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0<strong>Martin Sommerness<\/strong>.\n<p>Graduate students presenting papers included\u00a0<strong>Johan Bodaski<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>Anderson Dun<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>Kevin Snyder<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0<strong>Helena Squier<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Bodanski, Dun and Squier also facilitated a discussion on &#8220;Case Studies in Political Communication,&#8221; where more than 30 people from across disciplines participated.<\/li>\n<li>Professors from the University of Oklahoma visited\u00a0<strong>NAU\u2019s Department of Health Sciences<\/strong>\u00a0this week as part of their efforts to create an online Speech-Language Pathology Assistant certification program Oklahoma modeled after NAU&#8217;s successful\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/hs.nau.edu\/programs\/slpa\/index.php\">online program<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Missy Freshour<\/strong>, sergeant with the NAU police department, recently received recognition at the community event, Take Back the Night, for her efforts to raise awareness of sexual assault. Freshour received the Outstanding Community Member in Intervention Award at the event, which was presented by\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www4.nau.edu\/healthycampus\/safe\/\">NAU Safe<\/a>, North Country HealthCare and Victim\/Witness Services for Coconino County.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p><a class=\"search-results-excerpt-link\" href=\"https:\/\/in.nau.edu\/news\/in-the-spotlight-april-22-2011\/\">kudos to these faculty, staff and students Do you have a spotlight item to share with the NAU community?
