Bill Richardson and Veronica Garcia, the state&#8217;s secretary of education, on Oct. 24 at Gallup High School and Farmington High School. The ABET\u2014Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology\u2014award will be conferred today, Oct. 29, in Louisville, Ky., as part of the 2008 ABET commission summit.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Richard Rodgers<\/strong>,\u00a0professor of speech communication, published an\u00a0article in the latest issue of\u00a0<em>Environmental Communication: A Journal of Nature and Culture<\/em>\u00a0titled &#8220;Beasts, Burgers, and Hummers: Meat and the Crisis of Masculinity in Contemporary Television Advertisements.&#8221;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>The\u00a0<strong>NAU Forensics team<\/strong>\u00a0dominated a debate during last weekend&#8217;s back-to-back tournaments. In the first tournament, hosted by Mount San Antonio College, NAU received second place in the tournament and a second place sweepstakes for overall performance. At the second tournament, hosted by Azusa Pacific University, NAU won both first and second place in the semifinal round level.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Mary I. Dereshiwsky<\/strong>, educational leadership professor in the College of Education, was invited to make a presentation on &#8220;Mentoring Prospective Online Faculty&#8221; to Middle Tennessee State University on Oct. 24.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>NAU Marketing<\/strong>\u00a0received several design awards this fall.\u00a0<em>Graphic Design USA<\/em>, a graphic design news and information magazine, awarded NAU eight awards. The 2008 awards process saw more than 10,000 entries. NAU also won a design award from the National Orientation Directors Association in the Outstanding Orientation Handbook category during the 2008 National Orientation Directors Association Pubs Media Showcase Awards.\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www4.nau.edu\/marketing\/awards.asp\" target=\"_blank\">Read more<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Mike Wagner<\/strong>, Regents&#8217; professor in the School of Forestry, was interviewed in the article &#8220;Master&#8217;s International Program Offers Graduate Degree, Chance to Serve,&#8221; in the October edition of\u00a0<em>The Forestry Source<\/em>. Wagner highlights NAU&#8217;s international master&#8217;s program as a valuable opportunity for students planning on joining the Peace Corps.<\/li>\n<li>Twenty-two\u00a0<strong>School of Communication<\/strong>\u00a0graduate and undergraduate students presented research papers at the annual Arizona Communication Association Conference on Oct. 18 at Arizona State University&#8217;s West Campus.
