{"id":10830,"date":"2011-06-08T15:13:26","date_gmt":"2011-06-08T22:13:26","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/stage.headlessnauedu-b6hgdzckfdgxgzhe.westus-01.azurewebsites.net\/?p=10830"},"modified":"2013-05-21T13:29:37","modified_gmt":"2013-05-21T20:29:37","slug":"childrens-story-takes-the-stage-at-nau","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/in.nau.edu\/news\/childrens-story-takes-the-stage-at-nau\/","title":{"rendered":"Children&#8217;s story takes the stage at NAU"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A theatrical adaptation of a popular children&#8217;s storybook about a javelina who persues her dream of becoming a ballerina will take the stage this month as part of NAU\u2019s\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.cal.nau.edu\/theatre\/summer-festival.asp\">Peaks Theater Fest\/Town and Gown Theater<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><em>Josefina Javelina: A Hairy Tale, The Play<\/em>, will be held at 3 p.m. and 5 p.m. June 16-18 and 24-25 in the Studio Theater.<\/p>\n<p>The performance is based on the storybook\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Josefina-Javelina-Hairy-Susan-Lowell\/dp\/0873587901\">Josefina Javelina<\/a>, written by Susan Lowell. Lowell will make an appearance during the week of the performance.<\/p>\n<p>The play follows Josefina, who leaves home in search of her dream and who encounters several colorful characters along the way.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Susan Lowell&#8217;s books are special,&#8221; said\u00a0<strong>Kathleen McGeever<\/strong>, chair of the Department of Theater and the show&#8217;s producer. &#8220;They are uniquely Southwestern in flavor, yet associated with the tales that we know and love.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The adaptation will be created by a team of professors from NAU&#8217;s Department of Theater, including theater professor and director<strong>Robert Yowell<\/strong>; costumer designer\u00a0<strong>Jennifer Peterson<\/strong>, technical director and lecturer of theater\u00a0<strong>Benjamin Alexander<\/strong>, playwright adaptation by\u00a0<strong>Darby Lofstrand<\/strong>; and publicity by\u00a0<strong>Benjamin Grohs<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>The production is co-sponsored by The Department of Theater.
