{"id":1042,"date":"2012-06-29T16:24:57","date_gmt":"2012-06-29T23:24:57","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www2.nau.edu\/news-p\/wordpress\/?p=1042"},"modified":"2012-10-11T16:16:28","modified_gmt":"2012-10-11T23:16:28","slug":"in-the-spotlight-june-29-2012","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/in.nau.edu\/news\/in-the-spotlight-june-29-2012\/","title":{"rendered":"In the Spotlight: June 29, 2012"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><strong>Kudos to these faculty, staff and students<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><strong><\/strong>Do you have a spotlight item to share with the NAU community?<\/p>\n<p>E-mail your announcements to\u00a0<a href=\"mailto:Inside@nau.edu\" target=\"_blank\">Inside@nau.edu<\/a>.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Tim Smith<\/strong>, professor of music theory, recently developed and programmed a Flash animation component for the multimedia website\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/oregonbachfestival.com\/digitalbach\/\">DigitalBach.com<\/a>\u00a0that uses graphics, video and text to follow Bach\u2019s manuscripts.\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/oregonbachfestival.com\/digitalbach\/cuepoints\/\">Cuepoints: The Goldberg Variations<\/a>\u00a0is the work of scholars, artists and performers and integrates two world-class recordings\u2014including a harpsichord performance, a fully annotated, movement-by-movement analysis, and a follow-along, animated first-edition score that enables viewers to experience the fullest scope of the theme-and-variations form.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Three individuals from the College of Engineering, Forestry and Natural Sciences were featured in the \u201cMinority College\u201d edition of\u00a0<em>Diversity Careers\u00a0in Engineering, Technology &amp; IT\u00a0<\/em>magazine.\u00a0<strong>Duane Bitsilly<\/strong>, a mechanical engineering major, is featured in a\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/online.qmags.com\/DC0512#pg21&amp;mode2\">student profile piece<\/a>.\u00a0<strong>Alexis Baca-Spry<\/strong>, program coordinator for the Multicultural Engineering Program, and\u00a0<strong>Wolf-Dieter Otte<\/strong>, associate professor of electrical engineering and computer science, were featured in an\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/online.qmags.com\/DC0512#pg83&amp;mode2\">article<\/a>\u00a0about the success of NAU\u2019s multicultural engineering program.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Members of the Northern Arizona University community made a strong showing among the nearly 500 runners participating at last weekend\u2019s annual Run for Life 5K and 10K to benefit Northland Hospice. Several faculty and staff members placed among the top three finishers for their age groups.\n<ul>\n<li>In the women\u2019s 10K,\u00a0<strong>Margaret Montfort<\/strong>\u00a0with ITS took first place in her age group. Assistant comptroller\u00a0<strong>Heidi Jo Conto<\/strong>\u00a0took second place in her age group, and\u00a0<strong>Jean Marie Loverich Rieck<\/strong>\u00a0with Biological Sciences took third place in hers.<\/li>\n<li>In the men\u2019s 10K, biology professor\u00a0<strong>George Koch<\/strong>\u00a0placed second in his age group.<\/li>\n<li>In the women\u2019s 5K, NAU police sergeant\u00a0<strong>Melissa Freshour<\/strong>\u00a0and<strong>\u00a0<\/strong><strong>Kathryn Wertz<\/strong>\u00a0from Athletics each took first place in her age group;\u00a0<strong>Claire Marquiss Nyce<\/strong>\u00a0with the Education Technology Consortium took second place in her group; and\u00a0<strong>Betsy Mennell<\/strong>, associate vice president for Advancement,\u00a0<strong>Linda Stamer<\/strong>\u00a0from the School of Music, and\u00a0<strong>Bernice Frost<\/strong>with Telecomm each placed third in her age group.<\/li>\n<li>In the men\u2019s 5K, head soccer coach\u00a0<strong>Andre Luciano<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0<strong>Miguel Garza<\/strong>\u00a0with financial aid each placed third in his age group.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p><a class=\"search-results-excerpt-link\" href=\"https:\/\/in.nau.edu\/news\/in-the-spotlight-june-29-2012\/\">Kudos to these faculty, staff and students Do you have a spotlight item to share with the NAU community?
