{"id":10022,"date":"2011-07-22T16:18:03","date_gmt":"2011-07-22T23:18:03","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/stage.headlessnauedu-b6hgdzckfdgxgzhe.westus-01.azurewebsites.net\/?p=10022"},"modified":"2013-01-09T16:57:10","modified_gmt":"2013-01-09T23:57:10","slug":"in-the-spotlight-july-22-2011","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/in.nau.edu\/news\/in-the-spotlight-july-22-2011\/","title":{"rendered":"In the Spotlight: July 22, 2011"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2><strong>Kudos to these faculty, staff and students<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Do you have a spotlight item to share with the NAU community?<br \/>\nE-mail your announcements to\u00a0<a href=\"mailto:Inside@nau.edu\" target=\"_blank\">Inside@nau.edu<\/a>.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Christopher Lanterman<\/strong>, senior lecturer in the College of Education,\u00a0<strong>Pamela Powell<\/strong>, associate professor in the College of Education, and\u00a0<strong>Jamie Axelrod<\/strong>, director of Disability Resources, along with\u00a0<strong>David Camacho<\/strong>, associate vice president for Diversity and Equity, presented at the Association on Higher Education and Disability annual conference in Seattle last week.\n<p>The presentation focused on the evolution of NAU\u2019s Commission on Disability Access and Design as it took concrete steps to address physical and attitudinal barriers across campus. The university includes individuals with disabilities in its definition of diversity, has implemented universal design in the strategic plan and has created an inclusive environment on campus through partnerships.<\/p>\n<p>Lanterman also will serve as a guest editor for the next issue of the\u00a0<em>Journal of Postsecondary Education and Disability<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>Axelrod recently was elected to a three-year term on the board of directors for the Association of Higher Education and Disability.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Yeon-Su Kim<\/strong>, associate professor in the School of Forestry, was invited to participate in a workshop on forest health and social issues in Lombok, Indonesia.
