As Endowed Professor of Religious Studies, he also teaches in the Department of Comparative Cultural Studies. His field of expertise is religion, gender, and culture, and (post-) Holocaust and reconciliation studies. His scholarship helped to define the field of Critical Men\u2019s Studies in Religions. In 2007-08, he was guest professor at the Institute of Theology and the History of Religion at the Freie University Berlin, Germany, and he held the status of visiting Faculty Affiliate at the University of the Free State, South Africa. He received a Senior Research Fellowship at the Research Institute CLUE+ (in affiliation with Faculty of Theology) at the Vrije University in Amsterdam (2016\/2017) and he is the recipient of the Norton Dodge Award for Scholarly and Creative Achievements.\u00a0<a name=\"x__Hlk140755231\"><\/a>As of 2023, he is a member of \u201cContent Advisory Group\u201d of the Arizona Jewish Historical Society\u2019s Hilton Family Holocaust Education Center (HFHEC) to assist with the Planning for the future Holocaust education museum in Phoenix, AZ.<\/p>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\">He has been invited to speak, present his research, and facilitate intercultural seminars in Armenia, Australia, Austria, Belgium, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Canada, Finland, Germany, Italy, Israel &amp; Palestine, Poland, Rwanda, South Africa, South Korea, Switzerland, The Netherlands, United Kingdom, and the United States. Publications include the revised and expanded edition of his co-authored,\u00a0<i>Mit Blick auf die T\u00e4ter: Fragen an die deutsche Theologie nach 1945<\/i>\u00a0(2022; first edition 2006);\u00a0<i>Unsettling Empathy: Working with Groups in Conflict<\/i>\u00a0(Rowman &amp; Littlefield, 2020);\u00a0<i>The Holocaust and Masculinities: Critical Inquiries into the Presence and Absence of Men\u00a0<\/i>(SUNY 2020);\u00a0<i>Reconciliation in Global Context: Why it is Needed and How it Works<\/i>\u00a0(SUNY, 2018);\u00a0<i>Male Confessions: Intimate Revelations and the Religious Imagination<\/i>\u00a0(Stanford UP, 2010);\u00a0<i>Men and Masculinities in Christianity and Judaism<\/i>\u00a0(London, SCM, 2009);\u00a0<i>Men\u2019s Bodies, Men\u2019s Gods<\/i>\u00a0(New York UP, 1996);\u00a0<i>Remembrance and Reconciliation\u00a0<\/i>(Yale UP, 1995); and\u00a0<i>Body and Bible\u00a0<\/i>(Trinity Press, 1992). He guest-edited four journal issues:\u00a0<i>Strangers or Neighbors? Jewish, Muslim, and Christian Perspectives on Refugees<\/i>\u00a0(<i>CrossCurrents<\/i>\u00a02018),\u00a0<i>Antisemitism and Islamophobia<\/i>\u00a0(<i>CrossCurrents<\/i>\u00a02015),\u00a0<i>Masculinities and Religion<\/i>\u00a0(<i>Religion and Gender<\/i>\u00a02012), and\u00a0<i>Embattled Masculinities in the Religious Traditions<\/i>\u00a0(<i>CrossCurrents<\/i>\u00a02011). He also published three volumes in German on the cultural and theological legacy of the Holocaust, and edited Edward Gastfriend\u2019s\u00a0<i>My Father\u2019s Testament: Memoir of a Jewish Teenager, 1938-1945 (<\/i>Temple UP, 2000). He serves on several editorial and advisory boards.<\/p>\n<p class=\"x_MsoNormal\">As director of the Martin-Springer Institute, he has organized several international academic symposia, and has mentored the creation of the following traveling and digital exhibits,\u00a0<i>Stories from the Spanish Civil War<\/i>;\u00a0<i>Gino Parin:<\/i>\u00a0<i>A Complicated Life in Complicated Times<\/i>;<i>\u00a0<\/i><i>Through the Eyes of Youth: Life and Death in the Bedzin Ghetto;<\/i>\u00a0<i>Resilience: Women in Flagstaff\u2019s Past and Present<\/i>;\u00a0<i>The Kuykendall World War II Photography Collection<\/i>. He also was instrumental in creating the permanent installation of the NAU exhibit,\u00a0<i>Berlin Wall<\/i>. He has curated the art exhibitions,<i>\u00a0A Complicated Life in Complicated Times: Gino Parin and the Holocaust<\/i>\u00a0(2023);\u00a0<i>Echoes of Loss: Artistic Responses to Trauma<\/i>\u00a0(2018), and\u00a0<i>Wounded Landscapes<\/i>\u00a0(2014).
