Special Collections &amp; Archives\u2019 hours of operation during this time are Monday \u2013 Thursday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m, Friday 8:00 am to 4:00 pm.<\/p>\n<p>To learn more about changes to the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/legacy.nau.edu\/library\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Cline Library<\/a>\u00a0and the broader\u00a0NAU campus\u00a0for the Fall 2020 semester, click on the linked text.<\/p>\n<h2>Online Resources<\/h2>\n<p>Special Collections &amp; Archives\u2019\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/cdm16748.contentdm.oclc.org\/digital\/\">Digital Collections<\/a>, which includes digitized and born-digital material from the Colorado Plateau Archives, Northern Arizona University Archives, and other regional cultural heritage institutions, is\u00a0<strong>available online 24\/7 for all researchers<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>SCA\u2019s current online-only exhibit (<a href=\"https:\/\/library.nau.edu\/speccoll\/exhibits\/scaexhibits\/flagstaff2020\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><em>Flagstaff 2020: A Clear Vision<\/em><\/a>) and an online version of the Cline Library physical exhibit\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/library.nau.edu\/speccoll\/exhibits\/katielee\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><em>Full Circle: the Life and Legacies of Katie Lee<\/em><\/a>\u00a0are available at\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/in.nau.edu\/library-cline-special-collections\/exhibits\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">nau.edu\/special-collections\/exhibits\/<\/a>. You can also browse past exhibits at that link.<\/p>\n<p>All researchers can<strong>\u00a0search and browse finding aids\u00a0<\/strong>(narrative guides) for SCA\u2019s archival collections using Arizona Archives Online (<a href=\"http:\/\/azarchivesonline.org\/xtf\/search\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">http:\/\/azarchivesonline.org<\/a>).<\/p>\n<h2>Virtual Research Support<\/h2>\n<p>Special Collections &amp; Archives staff are available to support all researchers\u00a0<strong>virtually<\/strong>\u00a0during SCA\u2019s hours of operation (8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday-Thursday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Friday). If you have a research inquiry or need to speak with an archivist, please email\u00a0<a href=\"mailto:special.collections@nau.edu\">special.collections@nau.edu<\/a>. You can also call SCA at (928) 523-5551 or submit a question\u00a0via chat\u00a0during SCA\u2019s operating hours. A staff member will respond to your inquiry within 24 hours.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Requests for digitization<\/strong>\u00a0of archival and published materials will be considered on a case-by-case basis, as staff time and resources allow. Please note that the fulfillment time for digitization requests will vary based on staff availability, scope and content of request, and other factors. Please contact the department to learn more.<\/p>\n<p>If you are a faculty member or instructor seeking to use scans of published material (e.g. books, periodicals, etc.) held by SCA for a course, please place a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/legacy.nau.edu\/library\/faculty-services\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">course reserves request<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>SCA will fulfill\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/in.nau.edu\/library-cline-special-collections\/order-from-the-archives\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">reproduction<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0permission to use\u00a0requests virtually, with some limitations. Please contact the department to learn more.<\/p>\n<h2>On-Site Appointments<\/h2>\n<p>Beginning August 12, 2020 Special Collections &amp; Archives will offer\u00a0<strong>appointment blocks for on-site access<\/strong>\u00a0to collections material in Cline Library\u2019s Merriam Lamont Reading Room. Appointments will be available during SCA\u2019s operating hours of 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday \u2013 Thursday, 8:00 a.m. \u2013 4:00 p.m. Friday. SCA staff will work with you to ensure that you have adequate time in the reading room to review your requested materials.<\/p>\n<p>At this time,\u00a0<strong>on-site appointments are limited to NAU and CCC community members<\/strong>\u00a0in accordance with Cline Library\u2019s general access policies. Bring your JacksCard or CCC ID to access the library. Need help with your access to the building? Call (928) 523-2173.<\/li>\n<li>Beginning August 12, 2020, Special Collections &amp; Archives\u2019 hours of operation will be Monday \u2013 Thursday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m, Friday 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.<\/li>\n<li>While you are visiting Cline Library, please practice physical distancing: stay at least 6 feet away from other people.<\/li>\n<li>Face masks or cloth face coverings must be worn by all NAU and CCC students and employees in Cline Library when in the presence of others and where physical distancing measures can be difficult to maintain.<\/li>\n<li>Similarly, SCA requests that its users wear masks when interacting with SCA staff or in public spaces in the department, including the exhibit space, reference desk, and the reading room.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>General Reading Room Policies<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>No food or drink<\/strong>\u00a0are allowed in the Meriam Lamont Reading Room. There is a water fountain down the hall on the second floor of Cline Library.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Backpacks, purses, and other items\u00a0<\/strong>must be left in a locker in SCA for the duration of your visit. An archivist will assign you to a locker and provide you with a key.<\/li>\n<li>You may bring the following into the reading room:\n<ul>\n<li>your own pencils (no pens)<\/li>\n<li>loose-leaf paper for notes<\/li>\n<li>a personal laptop<\/li>\n<li>a camera, cell phone, or hand-held scanner<\/li>\n<li>a USB drive or other digital storage device<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>There is a flatbed scanner available in the reading room which you may use to scan materials for future reference.\u00a0<strong>Do not scan photographs\u00a0<\/strong>using this scanner. Ask an archivist if you have questions.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Do not use flash<\/strong>\u00a0when taking photographs of archival material. An archivist will be available to assist you. If the archivist is away from the desk when you arrive, please call their office phone number.<\/li>\n<li>Please\u00a0<strong>wash your hands<\/strong>\u00a0before handling collection materials. It protects your health and the materials! There is an all-genders restroom on the first floor of Cline Library and men and women\u2019s bathrooms down the hall from Special Collections &amp; Archives.<\/li>\n<li>An archivist will briefly review proper handling techniques for archival materials with you. In most instances, you should handle archival materials with<strong>\u00a0clean, dry hands.<\/strong>\u00a0If necessary, the archivist will provide you with a pair of nitrile gloves for handling photographic materials.<\/li>\n<li>The archivist will show you to your\u00a0<strong>assigned seat<\/strong>\u00a0in the Meriam Lamont Reading Room. The materials you requested will be available on a cart near your seat.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>After Your Appointment<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Following your appointment, the materials you used will be quarantined for 72 hours per recommendations from the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?sa=t&amp;rct=j&amp;q=&amp;esrc=s&amp;source=web&amp;cd=11&amp;cad=rja&amp;uact=8&amp;ved=2ahUKEwjMtPWi4rPoAhXTuZ4KHSCTCVMQFjAKegQIBRAB&amp;url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.ala.org%2Ftools%2Fsites%2Fala.org.tools%2Ffiles%2Fcontent%2FNEDCC%2520recommendations%2520for%2520disinfecting%2520books_Mar2020-converted.pdf&amp;usg=AOvVaw0nKSLwiYv98rZ3Nz70Kv2l\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Northeast Document Conservation Center (NEDCC)<\/a>. If you will need the materials for multiple days, please let an archivist know.<\/li>\n<li>If you do not finish reviewing your materials within your allotted appointment time, please let an archivist know.
