Cline Library provides a rich array of primary source archival materials in myriad formats that document the development of the Colorado Plateau and Northern Arizona University in a variety of disciplines. Below are a selection of our most popular formats and suggestions for how best to search for topics of interest within.

We maintain a photograph collection of over 2 million individual images, including black and white prints, color prints, scrapbooks, slides, negatives, color transparencies, glass plates, and born-digital files. The photographs primarily document the history of the Colorado Plateau and Northern Arizona University. The majority of our photo collections have finding guides with brief descriptions, however many of the images have been digitized and can be viewed via our digital collections. We are continually adding more digitized photographs to the collections.

Browse Digital Collections | Browse Arizona Archives Online

We maintain a number of regional newspapers, both in microform as well as physical formats. We have digitized the entire run of the NAU student newspaper. Patrons are encouraged to utilize the microforms, located on the first floor of the library. There are a number of online resources to help search for specific topics of interest in regional newspapers. See Clippings & Leaflets below, which will often contain clippings from local newspapers.

We hold a variety of original and amateur films (8mm and 16mm; magnetic; born-digital) from regional filmmakers. Primary source films in our collections relate to the human and natural history of the region, including anthropology; river running; skiing; travel/tourism; and geology. Several have been digitized and are available by browsing our digital collections.

Browse Digital Collections | Browse Arizona Archives Online

Often referred to as vertical files, these files include newspaper clippings, obituaries, press releases, pamphlets, and other ephemeral pieces assembled to uniquely describe an individual, organization, or topic related to the Colorado Plateau and/or Northern Arizona University. Visit us in person to review the contents of any file of interest from a listing of available files below.

Our oral history collections are complementary to other primary source holdings in Special Collections and Archives. Oftentimes, these recorded narratives are the only account or testament of a specific history or event. Hundreds of these oral testaments have been digitized and nearly all have been transcribed–in some cases translated–while others have been captioned for all audiences. Others are available for listening/viewing in person.

Browse Digital Collections | Browse Arizona Archives Online

Browse by format Discover a rich library of historical treasures at SCA Cline Library provides a rich array of primary source archival materials in myriad formats that document the development of the Colorado Plateau and Northern Arizona University in a variety of disciplines.
