What’s happening<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n As part of the university\u2019s ongoing commitment to protect the community and maintain compliant technology standards, ITS will be updating parts of the Two-Step Verification process<\/a> beginning on May 13, 2026<\/strong>. These changes are designed to better protect Lumberjacks from compromised accounts and unsafe sign-ins.<\/p>\n Warning notifications when your browser, operating system, or mobile device is outdated<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n If your phone, computer, or web browser is behind on software updates, you may receive a warning during sign-in letting you know that your device or browser should be updated in order to reduce the risk of compromise. This includes any personal devices that access university IT resources.<\/p>\n Some older operating systems will no longer be authorized for authentication<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n Devices running operating systems that are no longer supported or no longer receive security updates may be barred from signing in until updated to a supported and secure version.<\/p>\n Higher-risk sign-ins will require stronger verification<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n When a higher-risk sign-in is detected, such as a login pattern that does not look normal or impossible travel occurring on your account, additional verification may be required before access is granted.<\/p>\n YubiKeys and other supported security keys will require a PIN<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n If you use a YubiKey or another compatible security key, you will need to enter its PIN in addition to touching the device.<\/p>\n Tampered mobile devices will no longer be authorized as an authentication device<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n Authentication will be blocked from phones or devices that have been modified in ways that reduce built-in security protections. This includes devices that have been rooted, jailbroken, or placed into other non-standard configurations that may interfere with regular manufacturer security updates.<\/p>\n Devices used for authentication must have a screen lock enabled<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n To help prevent unauthorized access, devices used for authentication must have a screen lock enabled.<\/p>\n Steps to take before May 13th, 2026<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n Before these updates take effect, take a few minutes to complete the following tasks.<\/p>\n Update your phones, tablets, and computers<\/p>\n<\/li>\n Update your web browsers<\/p>\n<\/li>\n Make sure your devices have a screen lock enabled<\/p>\n<\/li>\n Confirm that any physical security key you use has a PIN set<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n If you need help updating your device, or have trouble signing in after May 13th, contact the ITS Service Desk.<\/a><\/p>\n Support & General Inquiries<\/strong><\/p>\n
