ITS is proud to announce four outstanding employees who were recently recognized for their service.
Matthew Tafoya received a certificate of appreciation from the NAU Police Department. Matt used our current GIS system and built individual campus maps, which the NAU PD can now use in their patrols. These maps were designed to improve NAU PD’s ability to respond quickly and effectively in the event of a campus emergency. Matt collaborated extensively with NAU PD to build a clear understanding of what they needed and was able to take the existing data and develop these individual campus maps.
Matt was able to turn existing GIS data into a logical tool for NAU PD patrol. Just another example of how ITS can assist and make the impossible possible!
Erin Plese is one of only seven Internet2 Inclusivity Initiative Scholarship recipients. The scholarships are awarded to women working in information technology in the research and education industries. The Internet2 Inclusivity Initiative is designed to encourage an open discussion to improve diversity and inclusion in the IT world by providing opportunities to women and other minorities.
Not only will Erin be exposed to new technology ideas and strategies to bring back to NAU, but she will also receive personalized career development support. There’s no question that Erin will be making a real impact at NAU through her experience. She has already attended the Internet2 Global Summit in Washington, D.C. where she had the opportunity to network with and learn from talented individuals from all around the world. Erin is excited to bring the many technical, yet progressive ideas to NAU.
Thomas Hahnke has received the Classified Staff Advisory Council Peer Nomination Award. Every year, CSAC receives nominations from all around campus from fellow staff members. Recognizing our peers for their hard work is what makes the NAU community so strong. Thomas’s colleague, Rocky Steinmetz said of Thomas:
