{"id":50,"date":"2018-07-18T10:28:25","date_gmt":"2018-07-18T17:28:25","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vendor.hub.wp.nau.edu\/iss\/peer-teaching-assistants-mentors\/"},"modified":"2026-03-03T15:23:35","modified_gmt":"2026-03-03T15:23:35","slug":"peer-mentoring","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/in.nau.edu\/iss\/peer-mentoring\/","title":{"rendered":"Indigenous Peer Mentor Employment"},"content":{"rendered":"<h1>Indigenous Peer Mentor Employment<\/h1>\n<p>The Indigenous Peer Mentor Employment program helps seasoned undergraduate NAU students to gain transferable skills, share your knowledge to new incoming Indigenous students through their transition to university life by providing strategies for success, sharing about campus resources, acclimating to campus life, and how to connect with other students, staff, and faculty.<\/p>\n<h3>Personal Characteristics<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Strong leadership skills and enthusiasm for helping others<\/li>\n<li>Organized, dependable, and possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills<\/li>\n<li>Outgoing personality and an interest in sharing personal collegiate experiences<\/li>\n<li>Positive attitude and knowledge of NAU support services\/resources\/programs<\/li>\n<li>Effective oral and written communication skills<\/li>\n<li>Self-motivated to work independently and is a contributing member of a team<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Mentor qualifications<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>Currently enrolled as a full-time undergraduate NAU student (Flagstaff campus)<\/li>\n<li>Cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher<\/li>\n<li>Be in good university conduct standing<\/li>\n<li>Sophomore level status OR completed at least 25 credits\/units by start date of position<\/li>\n<li>Must be able to work an average of 8 to 12 hours per week to complete duties and responsibilities<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Compensation<\/h3>\n<ul>\n<li>$16.25 per hour\/paid in bi-weekly paychecks.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Required training<\/h3>\n<p>Successful applicants must also complete the required training program(s) once hired.<\/p>\n<h3>Inclusive Student Mentoring Peer Mentor application is closed.<\/h3>\n<p>For more information, contact Emerald Arnold at <a href=\"tel:9285231789\">928-523-1789<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><!--script class=\"ektron-script\"&gt;
