The Supporting Inclusive Practices in Colleges Program (SIP-C<\/strong>) is a U.S. Department of Education grant-funded program with the mission of empowering individuals with intellectual disabilities to participate and thrive in higher education experiences. We work closely with local college campuses in northern Arizona to deliver personalized academic support services and resources. SIP-C<\/strong> supports individuals with intellectual disabilities who are interested in pursuing an advanced degree, certification, or credential in any field.<\/strong><\/p>\n

As of 2025, SIP-C is transitioning to the expanded Supporting College Access, Learning, and Employment (SCALE) program. For more detailed information or to express interest in participating, please visit the SCALE webpage<\/a>.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n

Our team engages directly with college-bound students to foster an atmosphere of inclusion. SIP-C students learn and engage with their non-disabled peers in inclusive academic settings. Each student is matched with an educational coach to create their individualized transition plan. Educational coaches offer support through every phrase of transition, beginning with enrolling in and funding college; pursuing appropriate and necessary on-campus services and resources; career preparation; and finding gainful employment opportunities.<\/p>\n
Additionally, SIP-C students benefit from establishing relationships with peer mentors. Peer mentors are current college students interested in building connections with students with intellectual disabilities. SIP-C students attend a variety of campus events, participate in student clubs and intramural sports, and connect with each other several times a year to experience life as a college student in a fun and exciting way.<\/p>\n
Our program partners with on-campus resources, such as\u00a0 TRiO<\/a>,\u00a0 Student Affairs<\/a>, and\u00a0 Disability Resources<\/a>, to obtain current information about changes impacting students or to seek advice on matters specific to student\u2019s desires or needs. Through support from our community partners, SIP-C is pleased to offer the Accessible Learning and Inclusive Guidelines for Network Success (ALIGNS) workbook. This free, online workbook incorporates SIP-C’s proven model strategies for inclusive transition and is designed to assist students with intellectual and developmental disabilities (I\/DD) transition to college. This guide is also recommended for families, community members, and professionals interested in supporting transitioning youth with I\/DD.
