Black Renaissance: Harlem Nights
In honor of Black History Month, the Black Student Union would like to memorialize the contributions and artistic accomplishments of Black and African American people throughout our history. Our Black Renaissance is an opportunity for the Black community at NAU to share our wide range of cultures and traditions with the rest of our NAU community. Doing so creates a broader sense of inclusion and understanding. We want to share our culture outside of the classroom and showcase the Black excellence that has influenced American history.
This year, Black Renaissance will take place on February 22nd, 2025 in the Dubois Ballroom. The theme of this event is “Harlem Nights”, reflecting the historical African-American cultural art movement of the 1920s, and participants are encouraged to get dressed up in honor of this. There will be catering of an assortment of Black American comfort foods, as well as a DJ who will foster an environment where everyone feels safe to freely express themselves through dance and good times, and live out the true expression of black joy through communal celebration!
