Employees are measured over two types of measurement periods.<\/p>\n<div class='shortcode-column-container'><!-- shortcode-column -->\n<div class=\"shortcode-column shortcode-column--count-3\">\n    \n<h3><div class=\"eplus-bg-color-row bg-color-dark-blue\"><div class=\"eplus-bg-color-row-content\">Standard<\/div><\/div><\/h3>\n<p>Employees who are considered &#8220;existing employees&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>Mid-October of one year through mid-October of the following year.<\/p>\n\n<\/div>\n<!-- shortcode-column -->\n<div class=\"shortcode-column shortcode-column--count-3\">\n    \n<h3><div class=\"eplus-bg-color-row bg-color-dark-blue\"><div class=\"eplus-bg-color-row-content\">Initial\u00a0<\/div><\/div><\/h3>\n<p>Employees who started employment after the start of the SMP.<\/p>\n<p>Employee&#8217;s service date through one year.<\/p>\n\n<\/div>\n<!-- shortcode-column -->\n<div class=\"shortcode-column shortcode-column--count-3\">\n    \n<h3><div class=\"eplus-bg-color-row bg-color-dark-blue\"><div class=\"eplus-bg-color-row-content\">Dual\u00a0<\/div><\/div><\/h3>\n<p>Employees who are measured on an IMP and SMP at the same time.<\/p>\n<p>The IMP and SMP measurement periods run concurrently.<\/p>\n\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<h3>Look back<\/h3>\n<p>Both the standard and initial measurement periods are on a 12-month &#8220;look back&#8221; measurement method to determine the weekly average hours for variable hour employees. This measurement method accounts for break in service.<\/p>\n<p><em><!-- shortcode-block-quote -->\n<div class=\"shortcode-block-quote shortcode-block-quote--left\">\n    <div class=\"shortcode-block-quote__inner-container\">\n        <span>If an employee is determined to have exceeded the 30 hours per week threshold after completing their standard or initial measurement period, they have met the full-time definition under the ACA rule and they may be offered medical benefits.<\/span>\n    <\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/em><\/p>\n<p>For assistance in determining your variable hour employee&#8217;s measurement period, please <a href=\"https:\/\/in.nau.edu\/human-resources\/contact-us\/\">contact HR<\/a> for help.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<!-- shortcode-right-column -->\n<div class=\"shortcode-right-column\" >\n    <div class=\"shortcode-right-column__container\">\n<h2><div class=\"eplus-bg-color-row bg-color-dark-blue\"><div class=\"eplus-bg-color-row-content\">Definitions<\/div><\/div><\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Existing employees<\/strong> work continuously without a break in service of 26 weeks in the measurement period.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Dual-measured employee<\/strong> is a variable hour employee who is measured on the IMP will eventually be measured on the SMP. This is referred to as &#8220;dual-measured&#8221; because the employee will become an existing employee.<\/li>\n<li>The <strong>administrative period<\/strong> is the period no longer than 90 days that is between an employee&#8217;s IMP and SMP and the date and eligible employee is offered coverage.<\/li>\n<li>The<strong> stability period<\/strong> is a one-year period during which the employee is offered medical coverage.
