&#8211; COBRA"},"content":{"rendered":"<h1>COBRA<\/h1>\n<p>The federal law known as the Consolidated Omnibus Reconciliation Act (COBRA) of 1985 requires that most employers sponsoring group health plans offer employees and their eligible dependents the opportunity for temporary extension of continuous coverage in instances when coverage under the plan would otherwise end.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/in.nau.edu\/human-resources\/benefits-cobra-premiums\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Monthly COBRA Premiums<\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/in.nau.edu\/human-resources\/benefits-health-care-end-dates\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Health Care Coverage End Dates<\/a><\/p>\n<h3>Administration<\/h3>\n<p>COBRA benefits are managed through the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/benefitoptions.az.gov\/cobra\">Arizona Department of Administration (ADOA)\u00a0<\/a>and enrolled, your coverage will be effective backdated to the first day that your coverage with NAU terminated, so ideally there will be no gap in coverage.<\/li>\n<li>How long COBRA coverage can be continued is based on the reason coverage with NAU is ending:\n<ul>\n<li><strong>18 months<\/strong> &ndash; If you are leaving NAU or are no longer eligible for health care coverage<\/li>\n<li><strong>29 months<\/strong> &ndash; If your loss of coverage is a result of total disability<\/li>\n<li><strong>36 months<\/strong> &ndash; If a dependent loses coverage because they are no longer eligible for health care covers (divorce or child turning 26)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>COBRA is a continuation of your current health coverage.
