{"id":18611,"date":"2023-07-17T17:12:41","date_gmt":"2023-07-18T00:12:41","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/in.nau.edu\/human-resources\/?page_id=18611"},"modified":"2025-12-23T20:29:01","modified_gmt":"2025-12-23T20:29:01","slug":"benefits-asrs","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/in.nau.edu\/human-resources\/benefits-asrs\/","title":{"rendered":"Benefits &#8211; ASRS"},"content":{"rendered":"<h1>Arizona State Retirement System<\/h1>\n<p>The Arizona State Retirement System (ASRS) is a defined benefit plan qualified under Internal Revenue Code 401(a) that provides a monthly benefit at normal or early retirement.<\/p>\n<hr role=\"separator\" class=\"hr--transparent hr--transparent-15px not-in-view\">\n<h2><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><strong>Contributions<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Both you and NAU contribute to ASRS. Contributions cover your pension benefit, long-term disability coverage and health care subsidy.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>For the 2025\/2026 fiscal year, your total contribution rate is 12.00%<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><strong>Vesting <\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Vesting refers to the requirement of service before \u201cowning\u201d all funds in your account.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Your contributions <\/strong>are always 100% vested.<\/li>\n<li>Vesting of your<strong> NAU contributions<\/strong> is based on when you were hired:\n<ul>\n<li>If hired prior to 07\/01\/2011, you are partially vested after five years of service and fully vested after 10 years of service.<\/li>\n<li>If hired on or after, 07\/01\/2011, NAU&#8217;s contributions do not vest unless you separate due to involuntary reductions in force or position elimination.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>View ASRS\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/VwSn3BI8Q3k\">What Does \u2018Vesting\u201d Mean<\/a> video.<\/p>\n<hr role=\"separator\" class=\"hr--transparent hr--transparent-15px not-in-view\">\n<h2><strong>Normal Retirement<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Normal retirement is the earliest you can retire with a full benefit from ASRS.
