{"id":18039,"date":"2023-06-15T16:43:01","date_gmt":"2023-06-15T23:43:01","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/in.nau.edu\/human-resources\/?page_id=18039"},"modified":"2025-12-18T23:41:19","modified_gmt":"2025-12-18T23:41:19","slug":"paying-your-premiums","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/in.nau.edu\/human-resources\/paying-your-premiums\/","title":{"rendered":"Benefits &#8211; Paying for Coverage"},"content":{"rendered":"<h1 style=\"text-align: left\"><strong>Paying for Coverage<\/strong><\/h1>\n<p style=\"text-align: left\">You are required to pay a portion of the cost of all voluntary benefits except basic life insurance which is provided to you at no cost.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/in.nau.edu\/human-resources\/benefits-voluntary-benefit-premium\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Employee premiums<\/a> are collected through payroll deduction to pay for that pay period\u2019s coverage.<\/li>\n<li>Missed premiums are collected on your next available pay OR you will be invoiced for the unpaid amount.<\/li>\n<li>Failure to pay your premiums could result in the termination of coverage and\/or being sent to collections for any unpaid amount.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<hr role=\"separator\" class=\"hr--transparent hr--transparent-15px not-in-view\">\n<h3><strong>Pre-paying for benefits<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>If you are paid over less than a full calendar year you will need to \u2018Pre-Pay\u2019 your benefit premiums for your off-contract period when you do not receive pay.\u00a0 Premiums for medical, dental, vision, life insurance and flexible spending accounts need to be pre-paid.<\/p>\n<p><em><!-- shortcode-block-quote -->\n<div class=\"shortcode-block-quote shortcode-block-quote--center\">\n    <div class=\"shortcode-block-quote__inner-container\">\n        <span>Benefit eligibility during your off-contract period is based on expected employment in a regular benefit eligible position for the next contract period academic year.<\/span>\n    <\/div>\n<\/div>\n <\/em><\/p>\n<p>Your eligibility for benefits ends when your employment in a regular benefit eligible position ends (resignation, retirement, etc). Any \u201cpre-payments\u201d collected are refunded.<\/p>\n<hr role=\"separator\" class=\"hr--transparent hr--transparent-15px not-in-view\">\n<h3><strong>How pre-withholding works<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Starting in early January and continuing through mid-May (10 pay periods) we collect 1.7 times the regular benefit premium amount. This additional premium pays for your benefits when you\u2019re \u201coff contract\u201d (7 pay periods) and not receiving pay.
