One-Time Salary Payment FY2022

Guided by informed confidence in our collective ability to improve the financial health of our university, and in recognition of the overall market position of salaries and the performance of NAU’s faculty and staff, President Cruz Rivera is pleased to announce an immediate investment in our faculty and staff employees with a one-time payment, equivalent to 3% of current base compensation, to all eligible faculty and staff.

On April 6, 2022 President Cruz Rivera announced the following immediate investments in NAU’s

faculty, staff, and student employees:

  • In the May 20, 2022 paycheck, we will issue a one-time payment equivalent to 3 percent of current base compensation, as of April 4, 2022 to all eligible faculty and staff.
    • The one-time payment is considered regular earnings and taxed based on employee elections on the W-4 and A-4 withholding forms.  Please note that with the increased earnings on this check, the taxes will be higher.
    • Employees can adjust their withholding elections by logging into LOUIE/Payroll and Compensation and select W-4 Tax Information for federal withholding and A-4 Tax Information for Arizona withholding.  The Deadline to make changes to these forms for the May 20th pay check, is Monday, May 16th.
    • Please note the HR/Payroll staff is unable to give tax advice, so if there are questions employees should reach out to a tax professional.
    • This payment is subject to Mandatory Retirement deductions.
  • Effective July 1, we will implement a new salary schedule for instructors, lecturers, and faculty recently reappointed into our new Teaching Track, resulting in increased salaries for FY23 that adjust to updated benchmark levels.
  • Effective July 1, we will increase the lowest paid wage for our student employees to $14.50/hour from the current $12.15/hour rate—an increase of 19 percent.

**Details are being finalized**

Generally, the May 20, 2022 one-time 3% payment applies to:

  • current benefits eligible NAU employees
  • with a start date on or before April 4, 2022
  • who do not have pending or recent disciplinary action

The one-time payment is calculated based upon each employee’s position as of April 4, 2022.

Eligible faculty and staff will receive notices detailing their one-time payment amount prior to the May 20, 2022 pay date.

Additional details and updates will be posted on this webpage.
