Experiential Learning Opportunities<\/h1>\n

Honors students have exclusive opportunities for learning and research outside the classroom.<\/p>\n

Field studies<\/h2>\n

Mexico<\/h3>\n

For over forty years the Colorado River has run dry before it reaches the Sea of Cortez. In the spring of 2014, Mexico re-watered the Colorado River and began the long process to repair long dormant estuaries and vital wildlife habitat.<\/p>\n

Restore the Colorado River delta and experience the cultural celebrations surrounding its rejuvenation during this 5-week course.\u00a0Videos, readings, lectures will provide context prior to a field trip to restoration sites along the US-Mexico border, where students will have the opportunity to perform on-site environmental restoration that will directly contribute to the success of the delta ecosystem.<\/p>\n

Canyon Country Aesthetics<\/h3>\n

Join renowned artists such as painters Bruce Aiken and Shonto Begay, to writer Kevin Fedarko (2016\u00a0National Geographic<\/em><\/a> article), to photographer Dawn Kish, students experience first-hand the Colorado Plateau\u00a0 and discover and create their own creative vision of Northern Arizona’s\u00a0“Canyon Country.<\/a>”<\/p>\n

Aix, France<\/h3>\n

Paint, draw, dine, and explore with world-famous artist Bruce Aiken.<\/p>\n

\n

Grand Canyon<\/h3>\n

Explore issues about the region and take part in field studies, coursework, photography, a river trip, and more through our Grand Canyon semester<\/a> program.<\/p>\n

\n

Research<\/h2>\n

The chance to work alongside your professors as an undergraduate is a very valuable experience. Here, students pursue research as early as their freshman year.<\/p>\n

Undergraduate research<\/a>\u00a0is a great way to dive headfirst into the academic world. At Northern Arizona University, you have the opportunity to present your creative work annually at the\u00a0Undergraduate Symposium<\/a>\u2014a campus-wide celebration of creative ideas and student achievement.<\/p>\n

Internships<\/h2>\n

You’ll have numerous opportunities to participate in an internship<\/a>\u2013including one in the Arizona Legislature\u2013and you can\u00a0earn class credit, too. For more information about internships,\u00a0email us<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Service Learning<\/h2>\n

If you value community service, you’re in good company in the Honors College. Our professors and students have helped connect Hopi youth with their culture, worked with Habitat for Humanity, and tutored incoming freshmen in math.<\/p>\n
