HIPAA Training for Students
Overview
Protecting patient privacy is one of the most important responsibilities you will assume as a healthcare professional. This training provides essential knowledge needed before participating in clinical activities.
Who Should Complete This Training
The following three HIPAA modules are required for:
- NAU students entering clinical education
- Students beginning clinical rotations or externships
- Students who need annual HIPAA training for program requirements
Who Should Not Use This Training
This training is not intended for:
- NAU employees
- Students working in a paid or official capacity for NAU
NAU Workforce HIPAA Training (Employees)
If you are an NAU employee or student employee, you must complete the HIPAA Workforce Training.

- Do not complete the student modules listed above

Important Reminder
Access to clinical environments requires adherence to HIPAA regulations. Completion of this training helps ensure:

Module 3 – HIPAA for Clinical Students: Privacy, Security, and Professional Responsibility
You will be given a password after you complete all three modules. This password is used to open this document: HIPAA Training Certificate – Word. Using the password, the document will open and you will erase the name that is currently on the certificate and you will type in your own name. You will need to save this to your device and send to the requestor of your training. Please reach out to the HIPAA Privacy Officer if you have questions at hipaa@nau.edu.
