Sustainability Action Plan: Procurement

The campus is committed to increasing awareness and procurement of sustainable products from environmentally conscious companies.

Sustainability Action Plan
Procurement Section

Objective 1: Quantify the amount of green products purchased on campus
Objective 2: Improve sustainable purchasing requirements in future contracts
Objective 3: Support sustainable food purchasing
Objective 4: Improve marketing and awareness of available green products
Objective 5: Work with regional partners to negotiate sustainable products into future contracts and large scale purchases
Objective 6: Implement a life cycle cost (financial and environmental) analysis for the purchase of any major energy or water using products

The campus uses a sustainable purchasing policy to do business with organizations that strive to:

  • Procure goods and services that cause less harm
  • Work with firms that demonstrate environmental and social responsibilities
  • Deliver goods and services in a way that will reduce the University’s carbon footprint
  • All campus-standard computers purchased meet the ePEAT Gold, Silver or Bronze Standard and at least EnergyStar 4 standard
  • All appliances and electronics procured are EnergyStar rated
  • The campus collects used toner cartridges by the Campus Supply department and returns them for recycling
  • Cleaning and janitorial products are Green Seal™ or UL Environment (EcoLogo)™ certified and/or meet similar criteria for cleaning and janitorial products
  • Interface carpet gave us a Cool Carpet Certificate for our use of their product which strives to have the lowest greenhouse emissions in its class
