How to transfer General Studies credits to NAU

General Studies course substitution

If you have transferred coursework to Northern Arizona University from another institution that you believe qualifies as a General Studies Program course, you may request to substitute a transfer course for a General Studies requirement. Contact an advisor to complete the required form.

If you attended a community college in the state of Arizona, you may search the Course Equivalency Guide (CEG) to see how community college courses transfer to NAU.

Transferable coursework

Students pursuing a bachelor’s degree at Northern Arizona University who have completed the Arizona General Education Curriculum (AGEC) from an Arizona public or Tribal community college, the Intersegmental General Education Transfer Curriculum (IGETC), or California State University General Education (CSUGE) from a California public community college are considered to have satisfied NAU’s General Studies Knowledge Areas, Foundation requirements, and Inclusive Perspectives. However, completion of the AGEC, IGETC, or the CSUGE does not satisfy the Junior Writing and Senior Capstone requirements. Students will still need to complete these requirements as part of their undergraduate degree.

Exception: Capstone and Junior Writing substitutions or waivers are approved by your advisor, the chair of your department, and the associate dean of your college or school. See policy number: 100801, Requirements for Baccalaureate Degrees.
