During this exciting and busy time, there\u2019s quite a bit to keep track of. Luckily, Arizona GEAR UP and GEAR UP Coaches are here to help. We\u2019ve provided checklists below families can follow based on their student\u2019s plans after high school. Print this article and post on your fridge so everyone in the family can help.<\/p>\n<p>Beginning in January, students who receive <a href=\"https:\/\/www.benefits.gov\/benefit\/361\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">SNAP benefits<\/a>, may get <a href=\"https:\/\/www.azregents.edu\/about\/promise-arizona\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">free tuition from Arizona State University, Northern Arizona University, or University of Arizona<\/a>. So, college is more affordable than ever.<\/p>\n<h6><em>To download a PDF File of this checklist, <a href=\"https:\/\/in.nau.edu\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/6\/2021\/12\/Senior-Spring-Checklist.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">click here<\/a>.<\/em><\/h6>\n<p><strong>All-Senior Checklist<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Stay focused. Don\u2019t let senioritis get the best of you. Focus on schoolwork and finish the school year strong. Graduation will arrive before you know it.<\/li>\n<li>Check with your GEAR UP Coach and\/or the Arizona Board of Regents website to see if you are on track to meet <a href=\"https:\/\/azsbe.az.gov\/resources\/graduation-requirements\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Arizona graduation requirements<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>Think about what you\u2019d like to do after high school. This could range from entering the workforce, college, technical\/trade School, or military.<\/li>\n<li>Complete the <a href=\"https:\/\/studentaid.gov\/h\/apply-for-aid\/fafsa\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).<\/a> Regardless of your plans, the FAFSA opens up opportunities for financial assistance. For help on the FAFSA, check out our article on <a href=\"https:\/\/in.nau.edu\/gear-up\/whats-a-fafsa-and-why-should-you-care\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">completing the FAFSA.<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>College Checklist<br \/>\n<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Apply to several colleges. We recommend applying to at least one you\u2019re confident you\u2019ll get accepted, one you\u2019re pretty sure will accept you, and one that\u2019s a reach. Not sure what that means? Check out the <a href=\"https:\/\/in.nau.edu\/gear-up\/senior-guide\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Senior Launch Guide<\/a> for more tips, and don\u2019t forget, many colleges waive application fees based on financial need. Pro tip: you\u2019ll also want to request transcripts from your high school.<\/li>\n<li>Submit the FAFSA. Completing the FAFSA is a must when applying to college. This opens you up to billions, yes, with a \u201cb\u201d of dollars to help you pay for school.<\/li>\n<li>Check your Financial Awards. After you complete the FAFSA, you\u2019ll receive a Student Aid Report (SAR), which will show you your financial aid eligibility. Make sure to accept\/decline any awards.<\/li>\n<li>Apply for scholarships. Check out <a href=\"https:\/\/in.nau.edu\/gear-up\/scholarships\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">scholarship resources<\/a> and apply to as many as you qualify for. Scholarships can help you pay for all kinds of college-related expenses, like housing.<\/li>\n<li>Keep an eye out for an acceptance email or letter. Typically, it takes a few weeks to receive an answer from colleges.<\/li>\n<li>Accept admission and follow the instructions provided in the acceptance letter.<\/li>\n<li>Share your decision with your GEAR UP Coach.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Technical School<br \/>\n<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Find a program and school that interests you and look up acceptance requirements.<\/li>\n<li>Apply and follow up with any requested documents (transcript, test scores).<\/li>\n<li>Complete the FAFSA. Financial Aid is also available for some technical schools.<\/li>\n<li>Apply for scholarships.<\/li>\n<li>Accept admissions and share with your GEAR UP Coach.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Military<br \/>\n<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Work with a recruiter to discuss your future with the military.<\/li>\n<li>Gather ASVAB scores or re-take test.<\/li>\n<li>Complete paperwork and physicals required by your branch.<\/li>\n<li>Meet with a counselor and recruiter to discuss careers in the service and what route you would like to take.<\/li>\n<li>Take Oath of Enlistment.<\/li>\n<li>Prepare for Bootcamp.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Workforce<br \/>\n<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Research requirements and training needed for your field of interest.<\/li>\n<li>Create or update your resume to fit the jobs you\u2019ll apply for.<\/li>\n<li>Gather references. Ask an adult you trust if they will serve as a reference and vouch for your work.<\/li>\n<li>Find job openings and begin applying. Gather any documents that the application may ask for (ID, social security).<\/li>\n<li>Accept the job and share with your GEAR UP Coach.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>If you are undecided, that is okay. You don\u2019t need to plan your entire future today. There\u2019s still plenty of time to figure out what you want to do. Keep motivated, think about your interests, and look for something that suits you.
