Career planning<\/h1>\n
The CDO encourages students of all grade levels to stop in or start browsing to begin their career search. Setting yourself up to graduate with a great opportunity in your future takes many semesters of preparation, planning, and networking. Consider each semester a block in building the bridge to your future.<\/p>\n

Discover your career objectives through self-assessment<\/a> of your preferences, knowledge, skills, and abilities.<\/li>\n
Complete your Handshake<\/a> profile to receive the most relevant information.<\/li>\n
Enroll in MGT 101 to learn more about yourself, career options, and business.<\/li>\n
Identify the majors and careers<\/a> that interest you.<\/li>\n
Attend the on-campus Career Fair and Career Exploration Day<\/a> to practice networking and learn about companies.<\/li>\n
Create a LinkedIn<\/a> profile for access to thousands of NAU alumni<\/a>, students, and faculty.<\/li>\n
Meet with an academic advisor to learn more about a specific major and the program.<\/li>\n
Utilize the Career Development Office (CDO) resources for your research.<\/li>\n
Begin thinking about your “personal brand<\/a>” and online presence.<\/li>\n
Begin attending Pathways workshops<\/a> for entrance into the Business Professional Program (6 total).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/body><\/html>\n\n <\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n

Create your marketing collateral: resume, cover letters, online presence, and brand to promote yourself. Use the CDO Pinterest<\/a> and LinkedIn<\/a> to assist in your research.<\/li>\n
Update your career interests in Handshake<\/a>.<\/li>\n
Update your LinkedIn<\/a> profile and have it reviewed by the CDO office (Room 121).<\/li>\n
Develop preliminary career goals with a career counselor.<\/li>\n
Research or join business clubs and organizations such as Delta Sigma Pi, Beta Alpha Psi, and The American Marketing Association.<\/li>\n
Begin to explore programs like the Executive Job Shadow<\/a>, Professional Recognition Program<\/a>, and the Business Leadership Program<\/a>.<\/li>\n
Complete required Pathways workshops<\/a> for entrance into the Business Professional Program (6 total).<\/li>\n
Continue gathering career information and build your network:\n

Job shadow a friend, family member, or alumni during winter or summer break.<\/li>\n

Attend the FCB Career Exploration Day<\/a> to network and familiarize yourself with future employers and companies.<\/li>\n

Schedule a mock interview with the CDO<\/a> to refine your interview skills. Use the CDO online videos as a resource.<\/li>\n
Begin to make an aggressive push for spring and summer internship opportunities<\/a> in your field of interest.<\/li>\n

Continue monitoring the CDO website<\/a> and Facebook<\/a> for updated job positions.<\/li>\n
Have your résumé<\/a> and cover letter finalized and reviewed by the CDO.<\/li>\n
Reflect on the skills you have learned and development from classes, internships, and experiences. Record your observations in a journal or blog to use in your job search strategy.<\/li>\n

Considering graduate school? Complete applications and have the Business Communication Center<\/a> provide feedback on personal statements.<\/li>\n
