{"id":39,"date":"2018-07-29T02:12:16","date_gmt":"2018-07-29T09:12:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/vendor.hub.wp.nau.edu\/ferpa\/page-13\/"},"modified":"2018-08-08T11:02:43","modified_gmt":"2018-08-08T18:02:43","slug":"page-13","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/in.nau.edu\/ferpa\/page-13\/","title":{"rendered":"Grade Issues"},"content":{"rendered":"<h1>Grade issues<\/h1>\n<p>One common, if unintentional, example of mishandling information is the issue of physically <strong>posting grades<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Posting grades is a convenient and even helpful thing for a professor to do, especially from the point of view of an anxious student needing to know his or her grade.<\/p>\n<p>The problem arises with identifying whose grade is whose. \u00a0Faculty may not use any identifying information on a posted list of grades because it is then possible for others to determine which student earned which grade. \u00a0This would be a FERPA violation since it is disclosure of identifiable education records.<\/p>\n<p>In fact, <strong>even using parts of identifiable information on a list of posted grades, like the last four digits of the student&#8217;s social security number, is against the law<\/strong>. \u00a0The best bet is to use a student-designed identification system if you choose to post grades at all.<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"&amp;lt;&amp;lt; Previous\u00a0\" href=\"http:\/\/in.nau.edu\/ferpa\/page-12\/\" target=\"_self\">&lt;&lt; Previous\u00a0<\/a><\/p>\n<p><a title=\"Next &amp;gt;&amp;gt;\u00a0\" href=\"http:\/\/in.nau.edu\/ferpa\/page-14\/\" target=\"_self\">Next &gt;&gt;\u00a0<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Grade issues One common, if unintentional, example of mishandling information is the issue of physically posting grades.
