Definition of a student

By now we know that FERPA is designed to protect students and to grant them certain rights.

A student is: an individual who was, or is, currently enrolled for a previous, current, or future semester at NAU.  If enrolled at NAU, the rights under FERPA are held by the student, regardless of age.

FERPA rights and procedures do not apply to:

  • Applicants for admission, whether or not they are accepted, or
  • Deceased individuals who did attend NAU at one time.
