Faculty Senate Resolution on the Compact for Academic Excellence in Higher Education<\/h3>\n

On 10\/20\/2025, the Faculty Senate discussed and collaborated on a Senate Resolution<\/a> surrounding the Compact for Academic Excellence in Higher Education. This resolution was voted on and approved by the Faculty Senate on 10\/21\/2025<\/p>\n

FSEC Statement Condemning Racism Accordion Closed<\/span><\/h4>\n <\/span>\n <\/div>\n <\/a>\n

The Faculty Senate Executive Council condemns the destruction of Black, Brown, and Indigenous lives in our communities, whether by police violence, systemic racism, or economic injustice. The Covid-19 pandemic has once again exposed the disproportionate risks communities of color face due to wide-scale inequities; it has stoked ignorance and hostility toward many groups, including those of Asian ancestry. It is crucial NAU, as an institution of higher learning, fully commit to educating for a fair and more just society by increasing access for students of color and by acknowledging their lived experiences in all our academic affairs. We stand in solidarity with those actively seeking to end racism and intolerance.
\n<\/p><\/body><\/html>\n\n <\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/p>\n

The NAU Faculty Senate’s business is focused on a broad spectrum of policy issues, including academic personnel policies; instruction and curriculum policy; research policy; and student affairs policies. In addition, the Senate serves as a forum for communication and dialogue between the faculty and the University administration, and as a consultative body for matters\u00a0in many other areas of institutional policy and operations, including student services, University facilities, and administration, especially\u00a0where these elements affect the academic program.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n\n

\n On April 28th, 2025, the Faculty Senate voted on and approved new changes to CoFS. The changes are as follows: \u2022 Formalized a series of career tracks within the faculty ranks. \u2022\u00a0Rearrange our schedule of faculty review so that faculty are not required to be reviewed annually. \u2022 The proposed changes to CoFS would allow the document to reflect these previously approved policies. \u2022 Clarification surrounding the timeline in which faculty members receive and respond to a letter from the…\n <\/div>\n <\/article>\n\n

\n Endorsed Teaching Portfolio Guide 4\/21\/25<\/a>\n <\/h2>\n\n

\n On April 21, 2025, the Faculty Senate voted on the endorsement of the Teaching Portfolio Guide. This endorsement was approved with 25 yays, 4 nays, and 2 abstentions. The Teaching Portfolio Guide is a document that guides units in the development of department specific criteria that can be used to document effective teaching in the comprehensive review process.
