As the weather gets colder, snow and ice will begin to affect the Northern Arizona University campus. Facility Services’ goal is to remove snow and ice from traveled surfaces in order to provide safe pedestrian and vehicular traffic.<\/p>\n
Accumulations of snow and ice will be removed as expeditiously as practical during and after storms within the parameters dictated by weather conditions, available workforce, equipment resources and safety practices.<\/p>\n
Staff and students are advised, whenever possible, to move personal vehicles from uncovered parking areas prior to snow events to facilitate prompt and effective snow removal. Vehicle owners will be responsible for any personal vehicles left on campus during snow events. Please note<\/span>: Facility Services cannot respond to requests to shovel\/dig out personal vehicles.<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/body><\/html>\n\n <\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n

Plan ahead!<\/li>\n
Allow extra travel time to and from your destination.<\/li>\n
If driving, slow down and take extra precautions.<\/li>\n
Prepare your car for winter:\n

Use snow tires, chains or studded tires.<\/li>\n
Check your windshield wiper fluid and keep your gas tank full.<\/li>\n
Stock your car with winter necessities including a windshield scraper and small shovel for ice and snow removal, extra hats and mittens, blankets, water, flashlight with extra batteries and a first-aid kit.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n
Dress wearing several layers of lightweight, warm clothing.<\/li>\n
Avoid slips and falls by wearing appropriate footwear or traction cleats.<\/li>\n
Keep your cell phone fully charged and carry a phone charger with you.<\/li>\n
Avoid overexertion when shoveling snow.<\/li>\n
Despite organized efforts to remove snow and ice, slippery areas may recur on campus walking and driving surfaces due to daily freeze\/thaw cycles.<\/li>\n

Building entrances are prioritized first for ADA path of travel, and then for the primary building entrance (if they are different). Alternate building entrances may not be cleared as often or as early as these other entrances. Always use caution when entering the building, especially in areas prone to ice.<\/li>\n
Ice melt is available to Building Managers by request in areas where building occupants wish to maintain walkways. To request ice melt call the Work Control Center 24\/7:<\/strong> 928-523-4227<\/a>.<\/li>\n
