What is F2S?

The Faculty2Student Outreach (F2S) tool provides an opportunity for instructors to communicate with students in a timely manner regarding academic, course-related feedback that is important for our students’ success. These messages come to student’s NAU email account and contain either positive feedback or concerns that are focused on the following areas:

  • Course participation
  • Grades
  • Missing Coursework
  • Absences

I just received an F2S message, now what?

You choose the appropriate next step once you receive a F2S message.

  • Need further discussion? Reply directly to the instructor using the F2S email, call, or visit during their office hours.
  • Need resources or information to create or execute your action plan? Use the referrals provided in the email to support your needs. Contact any of the referrals or your academic advisor to get pointed in the right direction.
  • Need advice? Contact your advisor if you have an issue with the class, you are thinking about dropping or withdrawing from a class, or if personal issues are interfering with performance.
  • Advisors and student support personnel can access your archived F2S messages to improve their ability to help you and offer personalized recommendations.

General academic concerns? Accordion Closed

  • If your instructor identified a specific action like turning in a missing paper or other assignment, then do it! If you can’t complete it before the next class, let your instructor know the date you will have it completed and ask for an extension.
  • Struggling with course content or exams? Talk to your instructor immediately during their office hours or make an appointment. They are the expert on what what is necessary for academic success in the class.

Attendance issue? Accordion Closed

“…class attendance [is] a better predictor of college grades than any other known predictor of academic performance, including scores on standardized admissions tests such as the SAT, high school GPA, study habits, and study skills.”
– Credé, Roch, and Kieszczynka

If you received a F2S email from your instructor, then they cared enough to keep you informed about your performance. Take advantage of the information provided with the appropriate follow-up.

  • Make the changes necessary to get yourself to class.
  • Think it’s a mistake? Check LOUIE class schedule to confirm you are attending the right section and make sure a dropped class is no longer on your schedule.
  • Need to drop or withdraw? Review drop information and talk with your advisor about how this affects your academic plan.

Grade concerns? Accordion Closed

Poor grades can create a high level of stress. Your GPA and academic standing can affect financial aid, scholarship funding, and housing; eligibility for athletics, clubs, and programs; and admission to specific undergraduate programs and graduate school.

If you received a F2S email from your instructor, then they cared enough to keep you informed about your performance. Take advantage of the information provided with the appropriate follow-up.

  • If it’s good news, then keep doing what you’re doing!
  • Not happy? First, meet with your instructor. No one knows the content or the necessary strategies for success better than the instructor.

Where do I find my grades?

Select the secure grade link in the F2S email from your instructor. The F2S pages do not display your grade information. In order to view your grades, also consider these options:

  • Ask your instructor! Your instructor can also use F2S to send you a secure link in your email with specific grade information.
  • Check your MyNAU Portal Student Center (select ‘Show Grades’).
  • Check Bb Learn.
  • Check LOUIE for mid-terms & final grade postings.

Positive feedback? Accordion Closed

  • Use this opportunity to thank your instructor and ask questions if you have them.
  • Keep doing what you’re doing and look for other areas where you can apply this strength.
  • Start networking: Would this instructor be valuable in your professional network, maybe provide a letter of recommendation or guidance in the future?
  • Schedule an appointment to discuss your future interests and plans.
