NAUgo Content Request Form
The NAUgo mobile app is designed to positively assist the NAU student experience by providing a useful, relevant tool to assist them with tasks. At this time, the primary NAUgo audience is students on the Flagstaff campus.
You may wish to add content to NAUgo or use it as a messaging platform to reach students. Familiarize yourself with the content types below and submit the request form to have your idea considered.
App Screens Accordion Closed
A screen is a “page” within the app that presents information and offers actionable items. A collection of screens are related and offer additional information or functionality.
Types of screens
Permanent screen – is intended to persist in the app and always be relevant.
Temporary screen – is intended to offer information for a short period of time.
Will a screen suit our needs?
In order to qualify for a screen or collection of screens, the department or organization must serve a majority of the appropriate student population and meet the following criteria:
- Offers transactional tools for the student, offering convenience (example: Cline Library);
- Offers multiple events throughout the year; or
- Offers a large, singular event, in which case the screen will be temporary.
Featured Item Accordion Closed
The Featured Item is presented as a tile at the top of the Home page for a limited time. The Featured Item tile links to a screen or event. It is intended to highlight a current event at NAU. This might include:
- Specific events (Commencement) or event series (Welcome Week, Homecoming Week)
- The kickoff of a longer event season (Native American Heritage month)
The Featured Item will come and go, depending on whether it’s needed at the time.
Does my event qualify for a featured item?
Featured Items will be limited to events/seasons which are newsworthy or potentially of interest to the majority of the users in the current experience. Decisions about what to include in Featured Items rests with the Student Affairs Campus Life Communications team, aided by the following criteria:
- The event(s) advertised in the Featured Item should be relevant to the broader community that is being served by the experience (examples include Welcome Week, Homecoming, Veterans Week)
- The Featured Item must be relevant to the experience (we wouldn’t include an on-campus career fair in the Online experience, but might for the Flagstaff experience)
Requests that meet the criteria will be prioritized based on institutional priorities.
Banner Notifications Accordion Closed
A banner notification appears at the top of a screen or set of screens when the user opens the app. Clicking the banner takes them to the full message. The banner will continue to appear at the top of the user’s screen until dismissed or until it expires. Banners are used to provide information within the app. A banner notification can be presented on any page within the app. They are informational and invite the user to take action.
Is a banner the right approach for our message?
The presence of a banner in the app should be the exception, not the rule. Content for banners is considered non time-sensitive and non-urgent. Submit a request and it will be reviewed. Many push notifications are approved by the Student Affairs Campus Life Communications team; others are approved by Academic Affairs or the NAUgo steering committee.
Push Notifications (Message Center) Accordion Closed
A push notification is a message that pops up on a mobile device. Push notifications must be enabled for the app, and the device user may disable them at any time. Therefore, it’s important that they be used sparingly and only when deemed necessary.
Can my department send a push notification?
Push notifications are used sparingly, and all requests are reviewed by the appropriate team: Many push notifications are approved by the Student Affairs Campus Life Communications team; others are approved by Academic Affairs or the NAUgo steering committee.
