Can EOC assist me with financial aid? Accordion Closed
EOC does not provide direct funding. However, EOC coordinators can assist students to complete and submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) or find scholarships. Completing the FAFSA can open doors for receiving grants, scholarships and/or federal student loans.
When do I complete my FAFSA? Accordion Closed
As soon as possible! It’s best to start 3-6 months before you want to start school. Funding is not automatic, your chosen school will request additional financial documentation to confirm your eligibility for funding. The FAFSA must be completed every academic year.
What do I need to complete the FAFSA Application? Accordion Closed
- FSA ID
- Your Social Security Number
- If you are not a U.S. citizen, your Alien Registration Number
- For 2023-2024: Your federal income tax returns for 2021, 2021 w-2s, and other records of money earned.
- For 2024-2025: Your federal income tax returns for 2022, 2022 w-2s, and other records of money earned.
- Note you may be able to transfer your federal tax return information into your FAFSA using the IRS Data Retrieval Tool
- Bank Statements and records of investments for the applicable year (if applicable)
- Records of untaxed income for the applicable year (if applicable)
- Marital status (marriage or remarried date/divorce date/separation date) if married, you will need to provide your spouses’ information as well.
Dependent students (under 24) will also need their parents to create an FSA ID and to provide tax information from two years prior.
How do I create an FSA ID? Accordion Closed
The FSA ID is a username and password combination you use to log in to U.S. Department of Education (ED) online systems. The FSA ID is your legal signature and shouldn’t be created or used by anyone other than you—not even your parent, your child, a school official, or a loan company representative. You’ll use your FSA ID every year you fill out a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) form and for the lifetime of your federal student loans.
What is the Pell Grant? Accordion Closed
Federal grant funds awarded if you qualify by completing the FAFSA and documentation. Grants and scholarships are the best options to avoid financial debt. Loans must be paid back with interest. More on Pell Grants.
Can EOC help me to earn my GED? Accordion Closed
EOC can provide information to the nearest GED Program and testing center in your area. For more information on the GED Exam and testing centers go to: GED.com. EOC provides limited GED test vouchers for eligible participants.
Do I need my GED or high school diploma to attend college? Accordion Closed
Some colleges let you take courses without a high school diploma/GED but you will not receive federally funding to pay for school without one. It is best to earn your high school diploma or GED. Many employers may request proof of high school/GED completion.
What if I don’t know what I want to study in college? Accordion Closed
EOC Coordinators have access to career inventories which can be completed on site and reviewed. This provides information on your interests and what might be a good fit for your type of personality, work values, skills, interests and goals.
What if I want to transfer to another college? Accordion Closed
Many two-year community colleges have transfer partnership programs to four-year universities. EOC coordinators can guide you to resources that will assist you in your endeavors.
How do I find my EOC Area Coordinator? Accordion Closed
There are five coordinators located in various communities throughout Northern Arizona. Primary offices are located at local community colleges where students can meet there and/or coordinators also travel to more rural communities on the Navajo and Hopi Reservations. It is best to see who the closest coordinator in your area is and contact them for more detailed information.
