The Toshizo Watanabe Endowed Scholarship Fund provides financial assistance to undergraduate and graduate students for a semester or year-long study abroad program in either the United States or Japan. A generous endowment gift of $10 million from Mr. Toshizo (Tom) Watanabe to the U.S.-Japan Council makes it possible to award scholarships to students for whom study abroad would not be possible without financial support.<\/p>\n

These are 3-4 week programs for U.S. undergraduate students. Participants can explore the culture, heritage, and history of the United Kingdom while experiencing higher education at a UK university. Eligibility includes being a US citizen, minimum GPA of 3.7, have at least 2 years of undergraduate study remaining after finishing the program, and more.

The Rhodes Scholarships, the oldest international fellowships, were initiated after the death of Cecil Rhodes in 1902, and bring outstanding students from many countries around the world to the University of Oxford. The first American Scholars entered Oxford in 1904.  All educational costs, such as matriculation, tuition, laboratory and certain other fees, are paid on the Scholar’s behalf by the Rhodes Trustees. Each Scholar receives in addition a maintenance allowance adequate to meet necessary expenses for term-time and vacations. The Rhodes Trustees cover the necessary costs of travel to and from Oxford.

The George J. Mitchell Scholarship is a national competitive fellowship sponsored by the US-Ireland Alliance. Twelve Mitchell Scholars between the ages of 18 and 30 are chosen annually for one year of postgraduate study in any discipline offered by institutions of higher learning in Ireland and Northern Ireland. Applicants are judged on three criteria: academic excellence, leadership, and a sustained commitment to service and community. The Marshall Scholarships finance young Americans of high ability to study for a graduate degree in the United Kingdom. Up to forty Scholars are selected each year to study at graduate level at an UK institution in any field of study. There is no age restriction on the Marshall Scholarships but you must have graduated from your first undergraduate degree after April 2016. The Marshall Aid Commemoration Commission promotes an equal opportunities policy. Scholarship awards are based on merit following a fair and transparent selection process. The Marshall Commission seeks and recruits students from all backgrounds.
