Our Families

A mom and child looking at a child' created art display that includes drawings and photos.

The NAU ELDC aims to develop strong partnerships between home and school, through open, collaborative communication about children’s home and school lives to provide the children and their families with a high-quality early childhood experience.  Below are some of the ways we partner with families:

Communication: Accordion Closed

Ongoing communication between families, teachers, and staff to allow for multiple perspectives on children’s development and interests to enhance learning experiences. These include:

  • NAU ELDC website and the Kaymbu app
  • Family meetings and bi-annual conferences
  • Weekly updates documenting your child’s learning
  • Open door policy
  • Daily informal conversations

Home Languages: Accordion Closed

All program documents and information can be translated upon request into a home language other than English through NAU. If an interpreter is needed for conferences, one will be provided upon request.   We invite families to provide translations of common classroom labels for us to post in the classroom.

Meeting Family Needs: Accordion Closed

The NAU ELDC works with families when circumstances arise that may necessitate adjustments to a child’s routine, attendance schedule, or needed resources.  The NAU CARE team is available to provide resource support on-site as needed to enrolled families.

Respecting Diverse Family Structures and Traditions: Accordion Closed

The NAU ELDC welcomes children and families with many diverse characteristics and traditions. The ELDC follows NAU policy and procedures with regard to the need for accommodations.

Family Engagement Space (FES): Accordion Closed

Enjoy snacks, meet other families, and share your insights!

Mission: The Family Engagement Space is for collecting information from families about school practices and family participation.

Goals of the group:

  • Provide input on school practices, including family communication and involvement
  • Develop family engagement activities and spaces for the ELDC
  • Promote and influence equitable programming so that all families feel included, welcomed, and reflected in our program

All families receive a welcome packet and an orientation to the program upon enrollment.  Families will receive information about the FES, child-learning events, and other activities throughout the year.  You can find our Family Statement of Services on our Resource page.
