The first step in the process is to fill out the Self-Identification form on the Request Accommodations page of the Disability Resources website. This link will take you directly to the Self-Identification<\/a> process and includes a video tutorial on how to fill out the Self-Identification form. Once that is completed you will be assigned to one of our Accessibility Analysts and we will give you a call to set up a meeting to discuss your accommodation requests. If you have any documentation to provide at this time you can upload it when filling out the Self-Identification form. We would need some type of documentation that describes either diagnoses or symptoms and related impacts. Documentation may be uploaded when completing the self-ID form, or later. After your meeting with one of our Analysts they will let you know if they need additional information. Accommodations are determined on an individual basis and a disability related need. Students participate in an interactive process with Disability Resources staff to help us understand the relevant impacts of your disability in the housing environment. This means the housing accommodations requested are assessed on a case-by-case basis and individualized need.<\/p>\n<\/body><\/html>\n\n <\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n

If you disagree with a housing accommodation determination, your next step would be to file a complaint regarding the determination within 20 days. The first step in the complaint process is to send an email to dr@nau.edu<\/a> stating you would like to file a complaint regarding an accommodation determination. At that point, you will be contacted to set up an appointment to speak with the Disability Resources Director. You may remain in a roommate group or choose a roommate. However, the ability to receive accommodated housing and maintain a roommate or roommate group is dependent on available housing stock and the accommodation would take precedence in the housing assignment. If you prefer to maintain your roommate or roommate group over the offered assignment that meets your accommodation, you can decline the offered assignment.<\/p>\n<\/body><\/html>\n\n <\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n

Information from a reliable third party who can verify that the individual has a disability and that the requested accommodation is necessary in university housing will be reviewed and carefully considered as part of the determination process. Disability Resources may deny the requested accommodation if it is unreasonable. Disability Resources shall determine on a case-by-case basis, if implementing the requested accommodation is reasonable.<\/p>\n

An accommodation is unreasonable if it: (1) imposes an undue financial and\/or administrative burden; (2) fundamentally alters the nature of the university’s operations; (3) poses a direct threat to the health and safety of others or would cause substantial property damage to the property of others, including University property; and\/or (4) is otherwise unreasonable to the operation of the University.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/body><\/html>\n\n <\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n

Housing accommodation requests are considered on an individualized basis. The timeframe is contingent on a number of factors, including availability to conduct an intake interview, and receipt of appropriate documentation. You may still go through the interactive process to determine eligibility for a housing accommodation. If approved however, the accommodation would not go into effect until a housing contract is secured.<\/p>\n<\/body><\/html>\n\n <\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n

No, once approved for a housing accommodation it will remain in effect through your academic career at NAU. This applies only to university managed housing on campus.<\/p>\n<\/body><\/html>\n\n <\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n

The housing rent confirmation payment (HRCP) is required to hold a housing space on campus and is applied toward the first semester rent. To receive a refund, you must cancel the request by the posted deadlines for cancellations. You will find cancellation information and deadlines on the Campus Living How To Apply for Housing<\/a> webpage under the HRCP tab.<\/p>\n
Additionally, the License Agreement is a binding financial agreement; therefore, the student must petition for release by submitting a License Agreement Release (LAR) request through the housing portal. An approved LAR is required for release from housing. It is the student’s responsibility to supply all required documentation noted in the housing portal for a LAR request.<\/p>\n
A petition for release is considered only for the following five reasons:<\/p>\n

Official withdrawal<\/li>\n
Not registered for classes<\/li>\n
Graduation<\/li>\n
Marriage<\/li>\n
Participation in a non-local program earning NAU credit, such as study abroad, internship or student teaching. This does not include remote learning if the student remains registered as a Flagstaff mountain campus student.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/body><\/html>\n\n <\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n
